Wild U want to leave the wiring alone on the left side switch. You do have the regular style, cruise control switch, and not the D port type, right? The D port style is only for the Track Pack option and won't work in our 05-09's. One guy on another forum, did use the D pad, but he set up the wiring for a line lock. I thought that was a great way to use that style switch for something other than what it was designed for. That's not what you are doing, but I thought I would throw that out there also.

The only wiring you have to worry about, inside the steering wheel, is the right side switch. It's wires mate to the first WPT1242 and it plugs into the lower hole, opposite the cruise control plug in, at the top, in the steering wheel. The second WPT1242 goes into the lower plug (under the outer column cover). With the four wires attached (identically to the way the upper WPT is wired), insert them into the 24 pin plug (J1) at the radio plug in connection. Use the same style connectors that the radio already has (take from another radio plug or similar wiring Ford plug--wire color is unimportant as long as you know where each wire goes and you place them in correctly) You are only using the ends so they mate correctly and stay put inside the connector. You will need to add about 20 inches of wire to each one of the WPT wires going to the J1 plug to have enough length. Add your short wiring connector ends, plug them in. You should be good to go from this point on. Check everything, and if satisfied, button up the dash and go have audio controls.

John. You never did put up the pics you said you would of the interior add ons. I wanted to see the side panels with the leather you put on yours. I'm still thinking of going with the peacock blue and matching with newer stripes this summer. Post one up would you. Thanks. PM your address and I'll send you what you need to fix your radio. I think that would be the best route to go. You will need to send me a pic of what you need though, besides the screen face. You mentioned another piece but can't remember what you wanted. Bill

Does anyone know the part number or size for the 5 pin connector pigtail,so i can just get the pigtail without cutting the old one.Thanks for the help everyone

Wild.....are you talking about the one in the steering wheel at the top? If so, I have never found a number from Ford for this part. Almost any Ford Explorer, before 2002 and like vehicles will have the plug if you have to go yarding for a part. It is just one part that is not listed in the catalog. I have Motorcraft and Ford parts books, and this part doesn't show as a separate item. Good luck.

Does anyone know the size or part number of the wire terminal that we are supposed solder at the ends . I went to ford and they showed me 4 or 5 different sizes and i don't know which one will do?

Wild.. You can not get the 5 pin terminal that goes into the steering wheel separate from Ford. Your best bet is to go to a wrecking yard and find one from an Escort, Focus, F150 etc, before 2004 in general. They used the 5 pin terminal for most vehicles. After that, they went to the 10 pin , like the 2010 Mustang's have. Other than this way, I don't know of how to get it. It doesn't show in any parts manuals or Motorcraft ecatalog. It doesn't matter what the color of the wires in the connector you get, as you will set it up they way you want anyways.

Finally got mine installed... SWCs work as expected!!

I guess one thing to note, these switches don't seem to be polarity-sensitive. I didn't have +/- marked on my wires (and didn't want to pull out the radio to find out which were which), but did know which went together. First time my phone button was operating my volume, move those to the other pair, and works perfectly.

I had it programmed by 4dtech to accomodate the new wheel when I installed the head unit last winter/spring.

Sorry, forgot to respond to the PM -- it's definitely an interesting look!

@Akdoggie, To be honest, I wouldn't know yet. I played with it for 5 minutes in the garage and that's it.... weather hasn't been so nice here.

Okay guys I have a 2013 steering wheel that I'll install on a 2009 mustang.The 2013 cruise control switch has the following wires.
TOP: Empty, Empty, Blue/White, Red/White, Brown.
Bottom: Empty, Empty, Red, Gray, Black.
Can I just remove the following wires or I need them for something: Blue/White, Red/White, Brown, Gray. From Ak guide I taught I only need the Black and Red wire.
Also can someone clarify how to check which of the wires will be positive or negative?

Post a picture of your wheel and the connector you are asking about. I think you are asking about the 10 pin connector for the 2013 clockspring in your new strg wheel, right? Are you going to navigation or Shaker 500 for the radio head? It makes a difference on the right switch? I don't think you ever said what install you were doing. If it's navigation, no problem. If it's to put audio controls on a Shaker 500, you would need the head programmed. You could use a CD6 head out of a Fusion or etc, and use audio controls. Just wondering.

I'm at work now and I don't have any pictures but yes I was talking about the 10 pin connector that plugs in the left switch of the new steering wheel.Initially the steering wheel came with the D-pad switch but I have switched it to the one that I need which is SW-6712. I am keeping my Shaker 500 and I want to get the audio controls working on it,but I was planning on doing the steering wheel switch first and then take it to Ford to get the head programmed. The Blue/White, Red/White, Brown, Gray wires are only attached to the left side switch from there they go directly to the 12 pin pigtail that plugs in the clock spring which I cut and I am waiting to get some time so I can take out the old steering wheel out so I can get the 5 pin pigtail from it. Can I cut those wires or what should I do with them,I don't know what their role would be.

You can't use the 10 pin connection. That's only for the newer 2010+ cars.
And Ford will definitely not reprogram your unit for you. That's why we all go to 4Dtech.

I'll have some time tomorrow to look for those pins if you still need them.
