guaging interest in an auto shifter
#901
Does anyone have any pics or schems of the auto shifter? I keep meaning to take the console off and try unbolting the plastic around the shifter so I can see what the handle is really like.
As much as I want the tiptronic B&M is putting together, I'd also like the ability (in the short term) to just change the handle.
I figure if the shifter post is just a bolted-on extension handle, I can swap that out for something with a threaded end. Then it would be simple to just put on a threaded rod with a new handle on top. You could make the stock shifter look exactly like my edited picture above without much effort at all.
I'd love to replace the stock T-handle with a shift ball.

I have to say, at least B&M isn't rushing the product to market!
Seriously though, they've had some internal business issues.
Seriously though, this product should have been out a year ago!
I'm still patiently waiting...

...Assuming the proto's are correct and it all works as we expect I will start accepting orders for them early Oct with a shipment date by early Dec. I can tell you we have entered the bill of materials for the shifter in the computer and the pricing is getting re-quoted now and in fact could be less than originally thought!.

I honestly think this has been on the back burner and will continue to be a back burner for this product. I would not even consider it after the wait, discussion, and lapse of time.

You guys are priceless. The guy was nice enough to ask for our input during the planning stages of the shifter - he didn't have to do that. But because it's taking longer than expected, now you won't even buy it. What if he never even asked your opinion, you had no knowledge of it's existence, and it went up for sale in the next month or two? You'd be like "Cool! An autoshifter! Gotta have it!" Way to show your gratitude.
Hey, don't buy it - it'll make it easier for me to find one in stock when it does come out.

Considering B&M's merger that was crazy and put production on hold for months, plus Ford's change of some configurations that caused B&M to redesign the product...the wait really hasn't been that long.
Besides, this thread is mostly full of posts from people bytching about where the overdrive button should be....because, you know...the previous 200 posts about the same subject weren't readable...
Move the selector to neutral and rev it.
Why?

When it's available, I'll buy it. It's been a long haul, but Sub's explained why and that it won't be ready til the end of the year. So.....buck up or quit yer whining and buzz off! This thread would be one-third the length if it was limited to real disscussion points of the autoshifter and void of whiners about production delays.

my guess is 'just for spite' because folks want their fries NOW! :-)
I can wait, I've got no problems waiting. It's not like there is another alternative if you don't want a manual. Or.... you could get a honda or something that already has tip-tronic or whatever.
If anyone is complaining, we should be complaining to Ford for not putting something like this into the automatics. It seems like a very logical thing to put into a Mustang, other car companies have this in their cars and market it as a 'performance/fun' feature. Heck, I think you can evern get a Honda/Acura and some SUV's with this option. Most folks who buy a Honda or SUV (I'm guessing) don't buy it for it's performance traits or potential. Most folks who buy a mustang GT buy it because of the fun power and performance capabilities (and potential). I did, since the Camaro was killed and I wanted a new car to replace my old camaro, and not a vette or 'gto'.

It's actually getting hard to find a car today that -doesn't- have some kind of tiptronic system for the automatic. Lexus, Acura, Honda, Hyundai, Dodge, etc, they all have a tiptronic. It flip'n blows!
I'd love to have a manual (may again, been thinking about trading in) but my daily commute and traffic here in DC makes having a manual less desireable. If I had a tiptronic setup, it would be the best of both worlds.
That's why I'm so charged about B&M's shifter. I can have my auto, yet jump into a tiptronic mode when I'm out playing around.
The only question I have for Chris and the B&M crew, is whether or not they've taken into account what this would do to our transmissions? Can our auto trans handle the new shifter's overriding of the automatic? It's real nice and all, but if I'm going to have to rebuild my transmission after every 3,000 miles, it's gonna suck!
