Bassani X-pipe (no cats) and Stock Mufflers

I posted a new thread abouu this too, but I thought I would add it to the sticky. I am not sure if anyone else has an x-pipe with stock mufflers. Well at least a video/sound clip anyway.

Ahh, what a sound. It is good enough for me that I won't get any aftermarket mufflers.

Great video! That's a great-sounding system!

Just a warning to those looking to have an off-road x-pipe and an off-road exhaust. I installed the Bassani off-road x-pipe this weekend and paired with the SLP Loudmouths I already had on... it sounds horrible. It's not only the fact that it's the loudest car I've ever driven and louder than most Harley's on the road, but that it just sounds bad. Surprisingly there is no drone, but when you accelerate evn a little it sounds like two big trumpets being blown. Hard to explain the sound... but it's not good. IMO, you need either cats or mufflers on this car. I know another member, Stangette, has the Bassani off-road x and I believe Roush off-road exhaust... but trust me, do not pair the Bassani off-road x and the SLP Loudmouths.

I even drove the car from Houston to New Orleans and although it wasn't quite as bad when I got home, it's still really bad. When I was cruising on the interstate, the exhaust was LOUD, but it sounded good. Once you accelerate at all though,. there go the trumpets.

Instead of getting some catted legs for the Bassani x-pipe, I have ordered the Bassani axleback because I want to pair them up. These two were tested together, so I know they'll sound right together. If anyone out there wants the SLP Loudmouths and has the stock catted h-pipe (this duo sounds awesome together) or some other catted mid-pipe, I am selling my SLP Loudmouths for $200 plus shipping. PM me if you are interested. I think the cheapest you can get these new are $300 plus shipping.

I have the full bassani setup and I tried it without cats. There is a lot of higher pitched rasp that comes out of these as well. You may want to consider trying cats with the loudmouths just for fun since you may want them with the bassani axlebacks anyway.
Thanks for letting us know about that setup.

Ryan, do you have a sound clip of the full Bassani exhaust w/out the cats? If not, can you be a little more specific about the rasp? I'd rather not put on cats if I can avoid it... I'm trying to get it as loud as I can, but still sound good.

Maybe you should go with the bassani exhaust. I'd suggest Borla over the others but you already have the Bassani x-pipe and I'm not sure how loud that will be with the Borla's (probably a lot better than the SLP's). Bassani's muffler should really quiet the system down but it will still probably sound raspy.

Jordan, I can get a sound clip tonight, sure. I'm telling you though, it's gonna be a rough sound. But might as well get a sound clip before I take the SLP's off.

And Dan, I originally looked at Borla's because I love their sound, but I think it'll sound the best if I stick with Bassani all the way back. Since they were tested together, you would think they'd sound good... even having the off-road x. There may be some rasp, but I'll sacrafice that for being loud. I'll try that first and if it's too raspy, I can always add the high flow cats. I bought the Bassani x-pipe with no cats thouigh... anyone know if they would sell me just the cat legs that come with the catted x-pipe?

The rasp is a high pitched tinny loud sound. I have a video but someone would have to host it. I have the stock mufflers on with the x-pipe and no cats. The raspy sound is exactly the same as with the Bassani mufflers.

Also, does anyone know what JBA axlebacks sound like with a Bassani x-pipe? I'm thinking about trying it just for the fun of it.

Just wanted to add that I am running Bassani's X-Pipe with Comp Cats and Bassani Axle-Backs, and just love the sound. It is very loud, especially when you accelerate, and just sounds awesome when you start it up. I do get a lot of drone, but doesn't bother me.

I spoke with Bassani before I ordered their X-Pipe. They stated that unless I am racing it, I would want to get the cats. Without the cats, you have virtually no back-pressure, hince the "raspy", "trumpet" sound that no one likes, and I would be very unhappy with it. The cats kind of "control" the exhaust and give you the sound you are looking for.

Hmmm... good input. I guess I could contact Bassani and get their hi-flow cat legs for my off-road x-pipe. Maybe there is someone who got the x-pipe with both the cat legs and off-road legs, who might want to sell me the cats if they don't use them.

Edit: I justy listened to Kluski's video clip with the Bassani off-road x-pipe and stock mufflers. It's a little raspy, but I think I could live with that. I'll have to see how it sound when I install the Bassani's.

Ian, I agree. Now that you have the x-pipe, you may as well go Bassani all the way back. I'm guessing but I think the mufflers might do a better job than the Borlas (which are just two coffee cans) at eliminating some of the negative aspects of the sound.

I'm sure someone here has a sound clip of the full Bassani setup too...

I have the video file of the off-road bassani x and SLP Loudmouths. I'll send it to Tony and see if he can host it for me.
