The new Surface 2's do seem very nice, but they are just so expensive. I picked up one of the Nexus tablets and they are quite nice.

Not entirely true, 64bit isnt there for just higher memory, CPU can process larger chunks of data at a time as well.

Only if the program is written to take advantage of a 64-bit system. Most of them are still 32-bit.

I like the idea that Asus is coming out with a dual boot tablet. Windows and Android on same tablet would be nice.

I didn't know that Samsung was working on one too. Can't wait to see one in the wild, if they're even out yet.

Interesting..... Wonder when they will start selling them and for what price.... My guess is $1500+, especially considering that they used to sell a Win7 tablet( just a tablet, not hybrid laptop/tablet) for $1600.
They may lower the price if the want to compete with the Surface Pro.

It won't be near that much. It's no different than buying a Windows 8 tablet and dual booting Ubuntu with it. Starting around $500 won't surprise me at all after adding more memory to hold the OS's. Depending on the screen size also...

So i've been thinking... I'm getting tired of a large tower next to my TV and one under the computer stand. I'm thinking of putting everything into something smaller and moving the storage drives out to some external storage cases. I have a bad habit of not backing things up, and most of my storage needs are pictures, movies, and tv shows.

So I was think of getting an external enclosure capable of a raid setup. Something at least 4 bays and a 3TB drive in each. NAS sounds nice, but the enclosures are a bit pricey. There are a few USB/eSATA ones out there that sound pretty good.

The price on this one from Newegg is reasonable, and the reviews are better than a lot of the others on there.

This type of setup is all new to me, so i'm open to hearing the good/bad/suggestions about doing this.

Might I suggest buying DLNA players, and streaming all of your content to them from a central media server.

That is essentially my setup. I have Windows Home Server 2011 streaming to Xbox 360's in different rooms for movies/tv.

If you want a full computer connected to the tv still, then you might have a look at the Intel NUC if you haven't already.

I'm off my phone currently, so I can't give more detail. But if you have questions, I'll try to clarify later.

The NUC would be considered if I was starting from scratch, but I already have the media center PC setup (see sig) and need to have that with the cable card and adapter. I just want to shrink it's footprint since it's in a huge case with 8 drives in it and move some/most of the drives to something external. I'm more just looking for info/pros/cons about using these external enclosures.

I assume you are referring to tablets and not PCs.

I wish I could help you out more, but I've never used a NAS box. That one looks easy enough to use, and most of the reviews seem favorable. Although I'm not sure how well it would serve your purpose. Since it only holds 4 drives, you'll have to split your storage. So you'll still need a decent size tower to hold the remaining 4 drives.

I realize this may not be what you're wanting to do, but perhaps moving the cablecard/storage/etc. to another computer and using it over the network may be the best option for simplifying your setup. It seems like both of your current systems already have the power for it, although I'm not sure what else you use them for...

Yes and no. A lot of programs in general are still only 32-bit, as you won't see much improvement on simple programs that already run decently fast. Which is what you'll likely be running on a tablet, even if it is capable of running full Windows programs.
