Do those drinks come with a skirt and a tampon? I honestly don't think I could bring myself to order a drink like that, let alone have someone see me drinking it in public, and I'm an alcoholic.

For no reason power went out. About the time I get a few candles lit and start calling power company, get into the automated phone process..... And power comes back on

Around here it'll flicker off just for a second and come back on. Then do it again, but if it does it a 3rd time, it stays off. And when that happens you can just go ahead and count on at least 6 hours and up to 2 days. When something knocks it off here, me and the people that live nearby will be the very last ones to get power back on. People right down the road will have it, and ours will be out for another 12 hrs.

They have breakers in the lines that if tripped three times will stay off after the third due to something causing it to trip. At least that's how it was explained to me

Yeah, I've seen those breakers on the poles. When it goes out, I usually get bored and start riding around with binoculars and a spot light looking for what is ****ed up, who has power, who doesn't, etc. trying to narrow down where the problem is so I can call in and give better info (a real busybody, lol). I know what you're talking about. They look kind of like a giant version of the old school paper and brass fuses in old houses, but appear to be some kind of ceramic with metal ends. When they kick out they hang down from the pole where a bunch of lines meet.

The power guys will take a long fiberglass pole that hooks into one of the metal ends and push it back into it's upper socket.

Thats not a pole.

Speaking of poles, remember the phrase "I wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot pole"? I wonder if that's where they get that from.

That's what the guy told me too but I think that was for the bigger transformers or substations - not the one in front of your house.

Out here, due the forest fire hazard, after they find and fix the break, they require I team to visual inspect the entire route that break affected. Sometimes there are multiple breaks, and they have started fires by turning it on after on fix think they got it. Live and learn.
So out here when its down, its down for awhile. Gotta have a wood stove, coleman, gas grill for backup. And a big enough gen to run the well pump and the reefer/freezer in the summer (you can melt snow in the winter and put pans of snow in the frig).
