Yeah that's a pretty common phrase around here.

Hey Gary,

Are you running a Red Top Optima? How do you like it?

I think the battery in the Mustang has finnaly gone south.

Last winter it was getting tired if I didn't start the car for 3-4 weeks it was dead. Well last week it was dead and had only sat for 2 weeks. So I jumped it and let it run for an hour or more in the driveway. Then last night I tried it again and turned over but wouldn't start so I had to jump it again. I let it run for another hour or so, but I know that is not going to fix it.

This weekend I'm going to pull the battery out and let it sit on the trickle charger for a day or two. Maybe I can bring it back to life.

I want to get something good just not sure what to spent the $$ on.

Be sure the terminals are clean so it actually gets a full charge.

The Mazda's starting kinda weird when cold. It may either be the starter or the battery, but I suspect more the starter since once warmed up it starts just fine. I checked the battery terminals and they look food.

Oh, and I was recognized as dairy/frozen employee of the year. Too bad the certificate didn't come with a check. You can't win 'em all.

I went from the stock Motorcraft to a Red Top Optima to a Yellow Top Optima.

From what I understand letting a car run in the driveway for an hour won't put a full charge on it. You need to get it on a charger overnight at least. The rpms at idle won't let a battery drain down, bit they also won't charge it properly.

You are about due, but I'm horrible with batteries. I can't find the drain on mine to save my life. I'm determined to find it this weekend.

P.S. the red top Optima is made for our cars, I can't remember the series number, but the yellow is not. It's a little tall. I had to turn the battery 180 degrees so the (+) post was closest to the engine so the hood would not touch it and short it out. Plus my terminals have plastic caps on them and also I've got the fiberglass hood now. Stay with the red and don't go to the yellow unless you are prepared to make alterations to the tray or the orientation.

Yeah, I don't want to get into any modifications. I also am not running a huge stereo like you so the red top should be just fine for my needs.

I was thinking of wiring in a battery tender like this and then just plugging in the car.

I've been using Interstate batteries exclusively in everything for about 10 years now and have had great service out of them, and good customer service if there was an issue.

It's sad that mine won't start after like 2 days now.

Agreed. Optimas are made in Mexico now and they are not as good as they once were I have heard. Mine is fine, but I'm not sure its worth the price. Optima made a name for themselves with their American made batteries and have since sent all manufacturing to Mexico. So at that point, why not just get an Interstate as they are warrantied all over the country and are good batteries.

so Sophia started squealing again, when I popped the hood, looks like the belt tensioner arm either needs to be tightened or replaced. It squeals when you rev it a bit, and the squeals are in unison to the tensioner moving back and forth.

That's all I've used for decades now. All except one I think didn't quite go the 84 month warranty.

That is such an elusive problem. Some have a drain and some don't. Mine sat for 60 days in the garage and fired right up yesterday.

Got some pics this afternoon.

It was detailed when we picked it up. This is probably as clean as it will be for a while. Need to talk her into ditching the frames or getting something else, and removing the dealer sticker.
