This is the second time for the same issue. I have a clunk in the trans/driveline that isn't normal. Last time it was there, the tech blamed it on "bald tires". I put new tires on (I knew his logic was BS anyway) and took it back. Took the shop foreman for a ride, he heard it and said it would be fixed.

In the mean time, I'm driving a modded F-350 V10. Can't be all bad.

I drove the (stock) V10 in my coffee truck for a couple of years when it first came out. Pretty torquey midrange. But it still wasn't the 460 I had before it. Just wouldn't pull the passes like the 460. And the mileage was about the same for both.

I remember as a kid when we were drag racing, my father had a 93 E-350 chassis under a 28 foot RV. We would pull our 26ft enclosed trailer with car gear etc. That 460 would pull the mountains in TN like it was running on level ground. He loved that engine, could cruise all day long at 70-75. Granted it was at about 8mpg but none the less. lol

It really was the best.

Over the years my coffee trucks had 350's, the 414 V10, and the 460. Loaded to the gills and ran hard and put away wet. All good engines, only needed oil changes at 3k.
I remember after my last out of town stop I would climb the 30 min long grade from Weed (3.4k) to the top of Mt Hebron pass (5k) with it floored and the AC on full! Comin home!! But I'd have to get out of the 460 - it was just too fast.
Entering a highway with a rolling R turn, I was always afraid I was going to break the drive shaft while the truck had minimal load. I would floor it and the front would just jump as it downshifted into 1st. lol
Nothin pulled like the 460. I could pull out from behind semi's and just smoke em up the pass whereas I couldn't do that with the other two engines.
Yet all the engines averaged 8 - 8.5 mpg for the week (traffic and mostly highway). Had to measure it every week on my expense report. Why not have the power too?

What kind of a clunk is it? Under acceleration, deceleration bumps?

I notice it mainly when engaging the clutch above 2500 rpm. Typically happens in 2nd or 3rd gear. You would hear a pop or clunk coming from the driveline. Also, if moving at low speeds, like in a parking lot, it would be extremely noticeable. It had to be up to temperature though.

First of all Ive been wanting to take it in because it had a loud ticking noise under the hood. Ive heard everything from fuel injectors to one of the pulleys. But i found a thread about the purge canister valve I believe it's called on the Raptor forums and people have said it's the cause. Apparently it's an emission related device similar to an EGR from a decade ago i think. Anyway it clicks when it goes out. And most seem to go out right at about the first oil change.

But yesterday the truck was idling very, very rough after it was warm. It would search for idle and rev then try to die out. Plus the exhaust stunk like unburnt fuel. It had all the symptoms of bad gas. The weird thing is that if you shut it off and stared it again it was fine for a few minutes and then it would do it again. No CELs and it never did die on me though it was close a few times. Weird stuff.

Meh, no worries. He's always like that after drinking for 18 hours. It's part of his altered state of consciousness. It's really most of the time Zen like.

btw, meant to tell this earlier after the brewery day. About 5 years back I knew a guy that picked up like a 76 LTD in really good shape from a neighbor that died. He said "now I've gotta get cowboy boots and a hat". I asked why? He said "cause all the rodeo guys drive up in LTD's". (I was thinking a pickup.)

So Rod, that owns the brewery, used to be a bull rider in pro rodeo before coming back to the farm and converting the dairy into the brewery. So he's asking about when my stallion mauled me and we're swapping injury stories back and forth and the LTD thing popped in my head. I asked "so when you were driving back to Oklahoma for the rodeo were you driving an LTD"?

He said "nope". "It was a Galaxie 500." I about spit my beer. Laughed my butt off.

So I guess its a pretty true stereotype.
