America's M3
I drew this for my son, but thought of this thread when I got it done. I little less retro than some of the designs on here. Looking forward to see what Ford can come up with in 2014.

Side note: On the title, America's M3, I was just thinking that the M and the Mustang share a common bond that they are not sports cars, nor are they super cars, they are normal cars with incredible parts. I think this is why the two cars have always appealed to me. Super cars are great but I'd never be able to own one, nor do I want the ostentatious "look at me" feel of owning one. The reason the Porsche 911 and Audi R8 do so well is that the Porsche is great looking but super common to the Porsche's of past, and the R8 just looks like a sportier TT. Anyway, the key being that the "normal" thing works. There isn't anything super stand out about the Mustang, or the M3, though it's subtle changes are very nice. The Camaro used to be this way in the 60's sharing design cues with the Nova and Chevelle (Malibu). Not so much anymore. Though these days there aren't many long nosed rear wheel drive vehicles so the Mustang does tend to stand out a bit more now than it used to.

I personally think Ford needs to get away from the whole retro thing for the next gen mustang...it was fun while it lasted, but its blah to me...Ford needs something completely fresh and new, something that pops and something that ultimately screams mustang

In order for something to scream Mustang it must look like a Mustang.
That is impossible without taking aspects from the past Mustangs.
That in turn means the word "retro" MUST be incorporated to an extent.
Something COMPLETELY fresh and new could not scream Mustang because something completely fresh
and new would be just that.... something completely new.

I agree with blacksmoke. I used to be an Olds guy then they stopped making anything resembling anything that whispered the word Olds, let alone screamed it. If they still made rear-wheel drive classic-looking Olds back in 2008, I wouldn't even have looked at a Mustang. Cars today all look alike, it's the styling that sets the Mustang apart. Now, it's going to take Ford doing what Olds did to get me to steer clear of Stangs. Hopefully, they're smarter than that.

I'm glad Ford found it's way back to the roots of the Mustang's styling. It's what made me want a Mustang again! God forbid they start making 'em look like RICERS!
