I agree the over all of this rendering is great but the green house is just to low. One thing I have noticed on every mustang is the proportions of the green house the the wind shield. I can spot a Mustang front the front even if I can not see the grill just by the proportions of the greens and wind shield.

I think this is important. Or maybe I just crazy

Yes they did...and the II is one of the reasons we get to celebrate 50 years of the Mustang in 2014.

Not all of them. The MPG was a special model of the Mustang II, focused on fuel economy. Also goverment mileage ratings back then tended to be hopelessly optimistic, and cars in the real world rarely reached them.

I still remember the day in '74 when my older cousin called to say he'd just bought a new Mustang (I was around 12-13 at the time), so my brother and I run outside all excited and he and he rolls up in a II. What a letdown... I just don't consider those things true Mustangs to this day It did catapult my other cousin who owned a Maverick Grabber with a 302 into the lead as my favorite cousin. It wasn't a Mustang, but at least if he the gas pedal, you didn't start looking at your watch waiting for something to happen.

I always like the statistic that in the first month of release Ford sold 18,000 Mustang II's. In '64, selling REAL Mustangs, they sold 22,000 the first DAY...

Back then people could actually afford Mustangs, and houses etc. We didn't have all that other crap to worry about buying, and/or ridiculously expensive real estate.

Yep not to mention that people actually drive a lot less than they used to, choosing other forms of transportation, telecommuting, etc. All of it adds up to fewer car sales.

Sad but true. Pretty much the case for any sporty car now. Everyone is choosing to go SUV/SAV

I think part of the reason is that you can opt for a sporty sedan or suv with high performance. Look at how popular the Dodge charger is. The pricing has hurt it a lot too. Not many 16-25 year olds can afford a 35-40k gt. People who can afford a mustang today for the most part older. The mustang of 50 years ago is the Honda civic and scion TC of today

The Mustang II was just as much Mustang as the original. Long hood, short deck etc. It was what was needed at the time - oil embargo, etc. Some complain it was based on the Pinto but the original was based on the Falcon. I think the SN95 was the first Mustang specific chassis.

While its certainly not my favorite Mustang time period it was still a Mustang. Although I do think GM did a better job keeping their pony cars somewhat performance minded. Like a previous poster said, without the II there wouldn't be 50 years.

Very true. I think the IIs get a bad rap but they were much batter mustangs that the 71 - 73 Aircraft carriers. I have also heard some say the II was base on a LTD chassis and it was well over 3K lbs. That simple is not true they were much closer to 2700. lbs.

I think although it was HEAVILY modified, the SN95 still had some Fox chassis under it. Albeit you would Sherlock Holmes to find it.

What are you guys talking about? The SN95 and Fox platforms are probably 80% the same. Which is why you can swap pretty much any combination of suspension/rearend/engine in between them.

The FOX-4 chassis was an evolution of the Fox platform for the '79-'93 Mustangs so some would disqualify it as a Mustang specific platform on that basis. The S197 cars have been characterized as having a Mustang-specific version, although parts of it were "inspired" by the DEW chassis of the Lincoln LS.

Man, I'd love to have a M2 ghia 4-cyl. 4 speed with no power steering & no power brakes.

We had 2 M2 ghias in our family. Both were 4-cyl. One had power steering & brakes; the other didn't. That car stayed in our family for 20 years before it got totaled with over 300k on it.

The car averaged around 30mpg. I know because my dad kept a book with every service record including every drop gas out into the car & the mileage @ each fill up.

OK! I could not find the data to back up my claim so I was more passive in the presentation.
