At this point I might sit it out until August when the Alpine becomes available. I like the idea of the larger screen and it seems to have all the features and inputs needed to do what I want.

I'm also waiting to see this Alpine unit up close.

Although if we hang in there until the new year, I'm sure everybody else will have their own 8 inchers out there. With luck, maybe someone will finally come out with a headunit that is just a touchscreen. No buttons.

Yellow302 on ebay has done the swap. Someone should contact him as I hate typing on a smart phone.

Not impossible. Expensive and intensive. You need the dash harness, amp, touch screen, mounting bracket, nav, bezel etc... . And programming. That is what is stoping us.

Yellow302 is not responding to my e-mails, which is too bad. I'm always happy to help others with their retrofits. I was hoping he would be as well. I think he is the guy that bought the nav off ebay as well.

Too bad.

OK, here's the deal.

This guy was the same guy that bought the nav off ebay while I was pondering it. He has a 2013. He replaced the dash harness (have to remove the entire dash to do this - I've done this a few times. A real pain) and also the heat/temp control unit under the top of the dash. The Amp is also needed. No programming for him. Has had this in for a week now.

I looked at getting the parts myself. The nav receiver part number is CR3Z 18K931 AA or BA for 2010 - 2012 and DR3Z 18K931 AA for 2013.

It won't be sold from the dealer, as they have to get it from the radio guys. The radio guys won't sell it without programming it and wouldn't give a price for the ACM (the nav screen, by the way is $500). The radio guys say that the reason it worked for Yellow302 was that the nav was already programmed and it was just fluke that the programming worked as is for him. Buying it new, the ACM has to be programmed to the car. Error codes would show up later as Yellow302 tries to access other functions, they say.

Best bet is to find a car of the same year and options as what you have and use the VIN from that car to give to them to program the radio. Non refundable, by the way.

The radio guys said that they need the engineering codes for the parts. They lost me on this part as to why this is needed. The engineering codes are teh serial numbers, not the part numbers.

This might come in at $2000. Comparable to the new Alpine unit and bezel.

Good luck.

Yup, really wish dealerships in hawaii were more helpful, it's too much work and too expensive to have anything done around here, thats why i'm gonna just got with the Alpine. It'll probably cost me $80 in shipping alone, but i think that's worth the price of admission.

I am also strongly leaning towards the Alpine.

But since I have to wait until the new year, I have time to continue to explore this. If I can get the same deal as Yellow302 did (I should have just bought it when I had the chance) I take it and try.

Hold onto your hats, I'm going to give this a try.

I am getting most of the components I need here in about a week, and then I'll still need the amps, main wiring harness, and climate module.

May take a while to get everything, but I'll keep you all posted.

Yellow302 has reported that the nav he installed has an issue. The climate controls are reversed. Pressing cold or the hot temp buttons gets you the reverse.

Odd.

He says he has a Ford tech guy that is helping him and that he had to get the VIN of the car he got the nav from. The tech will try to reprogram his nav next week.

Parts needed are the touch screen, receiver, center stack bezel and swithgear, main dash wiring harness, and the heater control module.

Heer is the part number for the heater control module: CR3Z-19980-B

Got the main parts in the mail today. I still need the bezel with the switchgear and heater control module before I can put this in the car, though.
