You're tempting me to buy this tool, but I'm afraid that I'll just have a really cool looking device that I have no idea how to use and no business using.

I'm kicking myself for not getting one of these right from beginning of this project. Could have done the cluster install and PATS myself ... I spent $200 at dealer getting my cluster installed and then having them try to program ABS module.

The VCM cost me $200 ... so wish I had gotten it first.

As of now my ACM, ABS, IPC, BCE and SJB are all using 2013 AS-BUILT. Only thing left is the PCM ... waiting on Matt for that.

You just seem far more adept at this stuff than I could be. I'm comfortable reading wiring diagrams, repinning connectors and making custom harnesses, but this? I'll end up with a shiny red brick with 4 wheels.

Still, I'm thinking about it.

Where did you get your VCM again? And will there be anything else I'll need to get this to work on my car?

Cheers

I'm not ... I just found a 2013 GT fully loaded with every option I have and just used the AS-BUILT from it. I also used this cars VIN for the Calibration for the ABS PMI.

I have a copy of the Window Sticker from the 2013 car so I can see the options.

When this is finally put to bed, we'll do just that.

Excellent! I will send you a test program by the end of day. If this indeed works as intended this opens up some new doors.

If the J2534 works as designed, this will speed this up tremendously.

It would take tools outside of the IDS software to brick your car. No publicly available tool can edit the bootloader of any Ford module. So its virtually impossible to brick it with IDS.

v85 and v86 are versions of IDS and the communications software in the VCM.

J2534 is a protocol form software to VCM communications. It allows you to write custom software against any J2534 compatible device. (and visa versa) This is a key achievement if it works.

FYI ... the 2013 AS-BUILT for the ACM disabled the Sub-Woofers in my car. Discovered it while driving into work today. Found some 2012 AS-BUILT data with the rear sensors so will have to reload it tonight.

Just to get some clarification.. I am kinda stuck on this:

If I buy the VCM II from the link above, the only thing i need in addition is the IDS Software from Motorcraft, correct?

Once I have that, I can reprogram the PATS for my new cluster and download as built data? Is this assumption correct? Or do you need the Module Reprogramming and Initialization piece, too?

Can I just register at motorcraftservice.com and get a subscription?

Many Thanks,

Let me add a disclaimer here:

The VCM link I posted is for a Chinese made clone. There is no guarantee it will work. However ... the one I purchased from that seller is working as advertised for me. I just want to make sure that everyone knows I am not endorsing any seller or their product or VCM clones in general .. so if there is an issue with the product or what it does to your car don't kill the messenger. I won't be reimbursing you if you car needs to be towed to the dealer.

To answer your question .. everything you need will be included in the package .. it will make more sense when you get it. Theoritically you should be able to do PATS ... I have not had to use my VCM for that since it was already done at the dealer. ajpturbo will be using the PATS function on his vehicle shortly so he can chime in anytime he wants. He has the same clone from the same seller.

@dmhines. I sent you a PM with a test app for the J2534 protocol. If it works, we are going to be in really go shape.

Jim010 ... does your Audio Volume lower when your reverse sensor beeps? Please verify.

I have loaded AS-BUILT from over 6 different cars. Same issue all the time.

2012 Car AS BUILT- Subwoofer works but sound does not lower during beeps.
2013 Car ASBUILT - Subwoofers don't work but Sound lowers during beeps.

Perhaps I need the matching SJB and BCM AS-BUILT.

Another thing I found out tonight playing around with VCM. The SJB and BCM do not need 2013 AS-BUILT for track apps to work. I reverted those modules back to my original 2012 As-Built and everything seems to work fine.

My volume does lower when in reverse, yes.

Ajturbo, I am almost ready to pull the trigger on the VCM. How is it working for you?
