But Ford gives the dealers a suggested MSRP price and that 65k MSRP is based mainly on the name Shelby, Cobra. Just like Boss 302. Its the name. The name is what a person is largely paying for. Ford could make a 650 hp mustang but without the Shelby name on it the MSRP would be way less than 65k.

it wouldnt be 40k or even 45k.. the boss is more then that and its lacking a SC. My normal premium 5.0 was 38k. plus not many people would be looking for a 650hp daily driver.

Agreed about the Boss price but its the name of the Boss/Shelby that Ford gets the higher price tag for. You may of paid 38k for your 5.0 premium but one can get a 5.0 for around 31 or 32k. Not a premium of course. Ford could put a factory super charger on its 5.0 for 6k and give it 600 hp plus for 38k or the premium for 44k. Thats not 65k they want for the Shelby.

thats not true. with added hp they have to beef up the clutch and other parts of the car to handle the power. That means better brakes and suspension and exhaust and added warranty cost that will also feed back intot he price. Adding the blower will also shrink the amount of cars sold since some do not want that much power and some will shy away since the mpg figures will go down. The mustang might even have to add 2,000 to the sticker because of gas guzzlers fees. its not small affect and it could be something that does more harm then good.

Bottom line is yes it is worth $60k. Not $70-80k but it's worth 60. With or without the Shelby name on it.

What better brakes does one need to have on the car because of the super charger? Brembo? The 5.0 stock suspension is more than capable of handling a super charger on it. Im not saying to only offer one 5.0 with 600 hp. Ford charges more for the name Shelby, Cobra and since people love names and emblems they will pay for it. If one had two mustangs with the same specs yet one said Gt500, Shelby and other was non Gt500, the Shelby would sell for higher and people would say, but its not a Gt500.

I would imagine that since Carol Shelby has passed away (rip) dealers will jack the prices up even higher than if he were alive.

when you make something faster and increase teh top speed you have to give it the ability to stop better. Un less you like gettign sued. The suspension will have to be beefed up to handle the power and the rear parts will need to be upgraded so they do no break. I do not think you have ever had a mustang that has had a SC so I am telling you it needs to be done or you will have a death trap for sale at your local dealer.

my 2007 had the ford racing 550hp kit and before the car need suspension and tires to make it safe. It was still hard to handle and I have drive theses cars.

you are paying for the name but its not 10k or 5k..

Dude that's not it al all. I guarantee you that the Boss 302 motor is almost twice the price as the GT motor. And I'm sure the 5.8LS/C motor is at least $10k over the GT motor if not more because of the blower. Just the twin disk clutch set up on the Shelby is about $3k. Add up all the better parts that come on it from SVT and you have you're extra charges justified. Now dealer mark up over msrp is another story. It's not the cobras on the side and It's not the Shelby nameplate that makes them cost so much. And the GT 5.0L motor won't handle 650hp.

Care to give any evidence of what the mark up is because of the name that is on the car. I'll be waiting.

Not and keep it from spitting its guts out and offer a warranty.

No idea how much the new motor is, but the S/Ced aluminum 5.4 crate motor in the '11 and '12 was around $22K.

Damm! I tried getting on ford racing's website but couldn't. Guessing if or when it's available, it's gotta be close to $30k alone. That alone might be your unaccounted for extra $20k.

It's at least $30.00 dollars more Lee because those rear tags aren't free, the S is 5.00, the H is 5.00, the E is 5.00

2011 kona blue- if thats the case, and allyou seem to be getting is hp from the cobra then why did you buy your mustang for 25+k? You could have easily got on ebay and bought a fox body stang with a stroker motor in it and blew the doors off of your 2011!!!! Im sure you purchased a pair of nike tennis shoes before when all you had to do is go to walmart, buy a pair of xj9000's and draw a nike check on the side with a sharpie!!! Man im sorry but your not making any sense! I think 65k is a fair price for the cobra! Ill be honest, if i had money to play with, id buy one 20k over sticker if i had to, but i cant so ill wait like i been doing, buy a second hand gt500 for 35-40k, and be able to say i got my dream car and not have to settle for a coyote!!

I spent $20k on my 07 GT/CS in addition to its purchase price. I have about the same RWHP as a '11 Shelby but I make no qualms my car is not a Shelby. And it is maxed out on stock bottom end. The same would happen to a 5.0. You'd spend the same amount of dollars and reach its max and still not quite get to the '13 Shelby. Plus all those mods ain't worth **** when you want to sell it. The Shelby has a higher residual. It's just the way it is.

I don't regret what I did one bit at all. But others might. I had fun putting this car together.

Now I'm going to enjoy it and a '13 Shelby hopefully and that will be that.

Have to agree with Al here. And I can speak personally to the Boss. Somebody mentioned their Gt was $38k, mSRP on the Boss, loaded, is under $44k, worth the $6k in my opinion and not just for the name. I have driven both and can tell you the Boss is a completely different car. The new GT500 is worth the MSRP, but not the additional ADM, just like folks have been charging all along. When I was in HI the dealer had a $40k mark up on the KR, bringing the price up to $120k. Thing is some dealers get these prices from folks, that's why they charge them.
