I think one of the primary reasons for the "let down" sentiment is that Ford says it got a CAI and a tune. People see aftermarket tunes/intakes making 30ish or more hp. The fact that this has the intake, tune and exhaust work for a net gain of 15hp is a bit of a mehhhhhh...

of course there is the possibility that ford is underrating, which would be a pleasant suprise. Even then, this C+ car only gets bumped up to a B.

*sigh*

The cost to develop and test a similar twin vented hood for only 7700 cars would probably drive production costs and ultimately MSRP higher then they wanted to price this car.

Hell you can get a vented hood for about $500. Seems easy enough customize it, if so desired.
this was the hood that i wanted. yes a little different, but a twin scoop design that was already available to ford!

I'm not confusing anything. I'm just a bit more understanding of what most people want. I'm sure for some driving a 500hp viper is a fine daily driver. But most people don't want that kind of power. Most people can't afford that kind of power- gas, insurance, and the price of the car.

I don't think you guys get that Ford has to really do a balancing act with this car. Some of you think you are the people Ford should be listening to and building cars for- but the reality is: you're a very small % of the buying market. But for some reason you guys can't see that.

This car is aimed at the average person. It's priced so they can afford it. It's equipped and powered so they can afford the gas and insurance and be able to drive it everyday.

even with that added stuff ford is adding a conservative tune! plus they need to present a nember that all cars will hit(when they say 315hp this is what the car with the lowest hp should make). plus they need to look after the mpg citations as well. i would much rather retune than pay 1k for gas tax!

(I've come over from IMBOC) - there are a lot of disappointed people over there - but not because of the new Bullitt, because of the server issues! What a letdown!

I like the 2008. I prefer my 2001 model's looks, but I am still thrilled with seeing that Ford could produce a car in this day and age that so accurately represents the original Bullitt ! I will promptly be trying to talk my dad into buying this car!

Not enough (fill in the blank). Too much money!

you get what you pay for we get what we pay for whats the problem?

As for hoping for one soon- I think you've got at least a year to wait.

we might think it is worth waiting for

And by that time the gas crunch will crush all plans of a high hp Stang.

so you admit the 2008 is not high horsepower then

You guys all seem to forget that Ford is in business to make a profit and not supply a tiny sector of the market huge hp at a low price.

how do you know the sector sizes

A Boss or Mach 1 is probably going to be about the same price as a GT500.

you race your side of the street well race ours

I doubt many of you will be lining up to buy one.
glad you know my finances

Definately interesting reading the different opinions, especially those stating the car is boring. Mission accomplished I would stay. The Bullitt was never supposed to be flashy. The car is a tweaked GT. *Gasp!* Golly gee, just like in '68. Imagine that...

Stickers and scoops=people complain, car's too gaudy
No stickers and scoops=people complain, car's too boring

Can't satisfy all the people all the time, as they say.

I think it's an absolute deal. For the same money, the CS package just gives you a few visual flourishes.

I'm with Hollywood, major disappointment - however, as my grandma always said, if you can't say something nice...the shifter and the strut brace are cool...

Yes you are and the above comments confirm it. Notice your emphasis on "afford" which you bring up several times.

BTW, I am thrilled with the car, it is well balanced but it does have a few shortcomings, just like the '01 did.

It's nice...but

I don't think the naysayers are off base here...I own an 01 Bullitt and love it as a bridge between GT and Cobra...but as with the Cobras, I would have expected improvement in some incremental way, both in comparison to the 01 Bullitt and the current GT. I don't feel the HP is significant over a GT ( common complaint to 01 owners too) I do think that the Bullitt logo is a bit more rampant on this one and more a cartoony feel emanates. I'm not a HP freak, but you're telling me that the best Ford could do was 40 more HP over 7.5 years when the Mach 1 was making 300-5 in 03? I love the color and really thought the body would suit it, but the changes seem too little to justify and most changes I feel I have already seen in the Shelby and Hertz. Which begs another question...why was the Bullitt never a true priority for Ford with this body style? It seemed more important to turn out severely limited numbers of Shelby and Hertz's than to really make a statement with the Bullitt. I was hyped on this car, no question...but now I feel maybe I have the better example in my garage. It looks good...but I don't sense the 'Silent Killer' that I did with the original and 01. I anticipate Ford will blow the doors off this car with the new Boss/Mach just as they did with the the 03-4 Machs...I don't think the 08.5 Bullitt was ever a real priority for Ford beyond ekeing out a few more dollars now. Maybe this car was the victim of Ford's recent few years' identity crisis. This car will sell and that is great, but as a longtime stang fan, I feel gipped. I'm not sure, but I think I may be looking overseas for my next performance vehicle.

speak for yourself please some of us wanted a little more

Most people can't afford that kind of power- gas, insurance, and the price of the car.

lots of vettes out there people drive them everyday

Some of you think you are the people Ford should be listening to and building cars for

at least we are not the Six Chalmers from IMBOC

- but the reality is: you're a very small % of the buying market.

are you a market specialist seems there are as many that wanted more engine power as those that dont care

Take a look at the poll survey on this site. The numbers speak for themselves.

Well, it's probably the 'right car for the right time', but I'm somewhat disappointed. An indication of how short it is on new features is the copywriters proclamation that 'new rear springs lower the ride height by approx. 6mm.' Thats only a 1/4 inch for crying out loud! How exciting is that? There's still 3 inches between the top of the rear tires and wheel openings, the same ridiculous stance as all the other current Mustangs, and that includes the GT500.
And for us Canadian guys, watch the $31,075 magically explode to close to $40,000 up here. So much for our dollar that's worth 8 cents more than it's U.S. counterpart.

i don't know about you, but I don't see a bunch of Richie Rich's on the Mustang sites I go to... I see a bunch of average people... average people who are proven repeat buyers of Mustangs, average people who know what they want. If not to us, who should Ford be listening too? and pleae don't say the bean counters! lmao
I realize the ratio of enthusiasts/"average Mustang owners" is probably pretty low. But think about it this way: what would happen if the military put all it's focus on recruitment of new folks vs retention of thier current force?

all that being said, i'm content with what the 08 Bullitt offers.
