Actually, the 2007 Shelby GT had an exhaust note very similar to the 1968 GT390, believe it or not. All they used was an X-pipe and GTA mufflers. I'll nominate Ford for the Nobel Science prize on your behalf........

I guess that sounded harsh but I was reacting to the very negative b!tchy tone people have taken. With that attitude, you'll never be satisfied. Very frustrating...

With that said however, I feel they will sell like Hot-Cakes and the dealers are going to have a 'Hay-Day' with mark up, especially considering how the market has reacted to the Retro-Styling of the new stangs.

Do I think Ford should be shamed for bringing back yet another special edition Mustang? Not so much. Do I think they should be shamed for introducing another Mustang where the only thing separating it from your 'Run-of-the-Mill' GT is the Name? Yes.
Someone put it perfectly before, saying they are into the understated look but appreciate the Bullitt is for those you do. If you aren't into it, get a GT, put on some deep dish bullitts, lemans stripes, shelby spoiler, and loud exhaust and you're done. Although it will look like half the peoples cars on these forums.

Ignore the look and think about the performance add-ons you get. The engine and suspension tweaks, 18" wheels, exhaust, nicer seats, with a warranty- seems worth the package price alone, right? You can argue all you want about the body style but the performance stuff seems like a bargain. I would have added that to my '06 in a second.

I'm in the market for a GT and was hoping that this might be a good option for grabbing a car off the showroom that had some signficant upgrades in the suspension and brakes, but this is a disappointment. A poster on Jalopnik made a funny post about the Bullitt that pretty much sums up my feelings...

"Malibu Stacey gets a new hat."

To each his own, but how many insubstantial one offs can Ford forcefeed the fanboys before they all catch on? (I've never owned anything other than a Ford so I'm no bowtie fan. I have a 96 cobra with maximum motorsports suspension that I open track and autocross.)

I love how the press release attempts to embellish every detail. It mentions that the brakes are improved due to an new brake pad. And it mentions that the rear end is lowered by 6 millimeters. That's a whole 0.24 inches!! To make it seem more significant I wonder if they could have picked a smaller unit of measurement like 236 mils or 60 million angstroms.

It has the ride height of a moon buggy so the springs and newly valved shocks and struts would just be take off parts for me.

I'd rather Ford just make 3.73s, brakes from the Cobra, and cold air intake options on regular GTs and then customers could pick the color, wheels, and dash "applique" that they desire.

We'll each have our own opinions, and I'm not going to argue that the increase in price is not justified by the "upgrades" if they are all upgrades you would want. However, other than the gears and the CAI the "upgrades" are fluff and/or not useful to me. I guess it is neat if you're a big fan of the movie or McQueen.

Regardless of whether you like the car or not, what is striking to me is that Ford is almost mocking the modern automotive PR process by making a big deal out of this car.

How many magazine articles will be in the next issue of every US magazine on this car? How long did it take Ford to make it? Give us the parts from the Ford Racing catalog and a team of 3 random guys on this board could have made a GT into this car (other than the asthetics) after church on a Sunday afternoon (one guy does the gear swap, one guy does the shocks, the other guy puts on the CAI and the shift ****).

I'll have to agree with you. I was waiting for this Bullitt and I couldn't wait any more, so I snatched up a Shelby. It's ok, but FORD could have done better.
This car could have been a big hit for them, they just need to listen to their customers. ESPECIALLY repeated customers to FORD.

Hey at least we have another Mustang.

well the grill looks like left over 05 V6 grills. One thing though I think it will make the 01 Bullitt more desirable

Technically, Ford wasn't trying to make it sound like a 390, but rather a 289 from a GT-40. Because in the movie they dubbed the exhaust sound from a GT40 with a 289. Ever notice how you hear the car shift through all 5 gears in the movie???

I personally like the car. Looks wise, I would just add some SHR louvers and a hood. Power wise I would go turbo since it already has 3.73s.

I love it, even the dash (Trans Am fan too, sorry).

Looks fantastic outside. I just can't see the argument of the naysayers. If Ford makes it cheap and simple, they'll say "oh, where's the blower and the big brakes" and so on, and if they did that, it'd drive the cost and up and they'd complain about that. Some people are never satisfied.

Can we at least be happy it's an overall better performer than the original?

The more I look at it the more I like it. I love that clean look with no fake scoops or any other BS. I hate fake crap like on the CS and the Shelby. I hate the fake side scoops on my Mach 1. Not my style for sure. But Ford, where is the power?????? Give us more!!!!!

For the love of God give us something under the hood. The 4.6 is not going to cut it it seems. Nice engine but its not going to take us into the next decade. We need 400+ hp Ford NA by the way with a torque curve as flat as Kansas. Please give it to us in a package like the Bullitt.

Please lower this car some as well. It sits too high compared to the 01. It looks like a pig.

I swear to God I wonder sometimes how much market reasearch goes on before Ford introduces a car like this. They should hire me. I could tell them more than they can imagine before they went to the expense. Are your listening Ford????? Did I mention more power?????????????????

Did anyone notice that the Bullitt grille and the FR500S grille look to be identical?

I suppose, despite my disappointment, that it is a very good thing that Ford continues the Bullitt tribute. Many will buy...as they should, but Ford's effort seems less than sincere. They knew many of us previous 01 owners would be interested in buying it as if it were a dog treat and would likely gain a few more as evidenced by the 7700 or so production numbers...but why not repay that loyalty with something to seriously brag about? Color rocks, heritage rocks, low key is good, but it feels like 7 cylinders right now to me. I would've thought Ford might have listened to the Bullitt owners as they did the Cobra owners after the 2000 debacle. It would've sold instantly....but it still will anyway. Good for them...bad for me.

Ford did not use a GT40 289 for sound dubbing in the movie Bullitt! I don't know why some people think this. A 289 from a GT40 has a "whine" and not a rumble like the 390. Go back and listen to the movie, then listen to a proper GT40. No comparison at all. A GT40 almost screams compared to a road-worthy big block.
Ford used the 2nd Bullitt (which still survives today) for the sound dubbing. As for the many shifts, you're right about that, but that comes from an over-zealous "dubber" who wanted to keep the viewers captive with lots of noise. Same thing happens in other movies too. It's as if they are driving a ten-speed or something......

Another thought that possibly and likely a 03-04 Mach 1 will take this car out in the quarter. If not, it will be close with the edge going to the Mach imo.

Five freaking years and this is what Ford calls progress??????? What the heck? I like the car but its not a performance bargain like the Machs were. I know there is more to it than that but still where is the power to match the lsx engines?

I like this car but am frustrated with Ford. The Bullitt does not have enough juice for me to buy one. Put that in your pipe and smoke it Ford. The Bullitt is a money sucker for Ford until they can release the next generation Mustang. Thats the bottom line and I aint buying it.
