Official Bullitt Release & Pix!

dkegel,
The V6 doesn't have holes, those emblems are just stuck on, I believe. But the Shelby (ordered with the GT Upfitters package) doesn't have holes in the fenders, and the GT/CS also doesn't have holes in the fenders. These aren't new parts for '08, they've already been made for a while.

Hey Eric! How's it going?? I hope you are well and enjoying the Mach!! I've got 67,000 miles on mine. How many on yours??
Remember when Bullitts and Machs were noticably different in speeds and times in the 1/4 mile? They are much closer with this new car now.
If we get a new Boss or Mach, maybe that's where the power will lie and the universe can be like it was before

When the Machs came out it got my juices flowing like never before. I knew the cars would give an ls1 all they could stand and they will. Now, with the ls2 out and the Camaro and Challenger around the corner Ford needs to step up imo. You may well be right about Ford saving something back for the next mach or boss and drop the bomb when they need to in order to compete. I tend to think the bullitt, shelby gt, and cs are just an attempt to boost sales mid stream in the current platform. For what ever reason I never got too excited about any of them because they lacked any significant power increase. The Mach was a big step up back in the day.
Sometimes I get very critial but its only because I love Mustangs. Heck, my Mother who is in her 70's bought a new GT drop top to drive and she said its her favorite car that she has ever had. How cool is that? The s197 platform is a big step up from the sn95. They drive the car everyday rain or shine and it has been nearly flawless. Battery went dead for no reason but Ford took care of that. I seem to remember that you bought a 06 or 07 didnt you? How do you like it?

Ford did very well with this version, it is a true tribute the the car of the movie and pays it homage well. That's just what it is supposed ot do.
The '01 was nice, but other than the colour and seat pleats didn't really do the car of the movie well.
People either 'get it', or they don't. That's fine, I'm sure there are 7,700 people who do 'get it'

D-Plan since i work at a Ford Dealership. Next step now is to figure out what louvers and hood to put on there down the road.
The sales manager tried to keep pushing me to get sirius radio since i ordered almost every other option, i nearly had to deck him telling him that "No! I don't want sirius radio!" The large black antenna on the trunk does not appeal to me.

Ford did not use a GT40 289 for sound dubbing in the movie Bullitt! I don't know why some people think this. A 289 from a GT40 has a "whine" and not a rumble like the 390. Go back and listen to the movie, then listen to a proper GT40. No comparison at all. A GT40 almost screams compared to a road-worthy big block.
Ford used the 2nd Bullitt (which still survives today) for the sound dubbing. As for the many shifts, you're right about that, but that comes from an over-zealous "dubber" who wanted to keep the viewers captive with lots of noise. Same thing happens in other movies too. It's as if they are driving a ten-speed or something......

I read that Ford Engineers used a digitally enhanced DVD of the exhaust note from the sound track. Arvin Meritor supplied the ehaust, designed from scratch.

If the '08 BULLITT sounds anywhere near the '01 BULLITT's exhaust note it will be nice. What the '01 BULLITT lacked in power it made up with the sound of the engine roaring so it might turn out to be the same case now.

There's a great 5:20 video of the new Bullitt c/w an interview with Bob Randel going over the Bullitt with the host over at Popular Mechanics. It's on their opening page, and a very good article. George, I think you'll just love the new exhaust sound. Very close to the original I think and even better than the 01's.
I hate to admit it, but the dash is beginning to grow on me. It really "fits" the car the more I look at it. Strange, I know. And the more I see pics and vids of the car, the more I realize how correct this car is. Ford really did do a great job on it. I just love those clean lines and how stealthy it looks. How many auto makers would dare not to put their branding all over their car, not to mention make a movie car in the first place? The car is so sleek it's empowering subtle strength is all over it. Great job Ford!!

Hey! Great idea Boomer! Wouldn't cost Ford too much to do this either.

i wonder if you will get the gas guzzler tax like on the shelby Gt since it got the same engine enhancements that did? i like the no exterior badges, wheels nothing new. seats nothing new. grill needs help. dash OMG WTF? love the shifter, the strut tower brace looks good. can we get some real lowering springs.... the car is just not enough to step up from a GT that you can get more for less!

Shelby Autos did their own EPA testing and advertise the Shelby GT as having a few more HP than the BULLITT which might be contributing factors for the addition of the GGT.

I think the Bullitt is very well priced for what you're getting. Subtle tweaks, but different nonetheless.
I believe the Bullitt will be exempt from the GGT, as it requires regular fuel to get the posted MPG unlike the Shelby that came with a premium tune. But the "flex knock sensor" (or whatever it's called) will allow the use of premium fuel and give you more power. This is a cool feature!

The shelby GT is killing the bullitt on aesthetics alone. lowered stance, different front & rear fascias plus more assertive 18's. i dont see much of a comparison outside of the paint. Still a cool car though, just not worthy of the hype in any capacity.
