I'd plug them back in man!! Thousands of these air bags are going off every day without any failure, compared to the 11 people or so that have been affected total. What if someone hit YOU? What if you rolled over? You never know.

There have been thousands of survivable crashes in the 1980's & before. Long before airbags. My last concussion was due to an airbag. Concussion or whiplash? Tough decision.

I personally think that's ignorant, and that's all I'll say.

Yes but the way cars are made today are much different and they react different in a crash compared to cars of the 80s.
Modern cars crumple to absorb the impact thus one reason for air bags.

I work in the school district where the girl was killed. She was one of our high school seniors. Low speed, very minor crash, and the shrapnel from the inflator cut her throat. Was a crash that she should've easily walked away from, but didn't because of the airbag. This was the 10th US fatality, and all 10 were in Honda Civics.

My 07 GT is now my daughter's car who is the same age as the girl who was killed. I've taken the car from her and she's driving my Marauder now. She's pissed at me, but I think it's the safest route.

I just took the car into the dealer for an oil change this morning and talked to the service manager about it, but they have no answers either.

The last numbers that I've seen were 35 million cars subject to the recall, and about 7 million have been repaired so far.

For whatever it's worth, my 2008 Dodge pickup had the same Takata inflator issue that we Mustang owners are now dealing with. I was able to get it into the local dealer this afternoon where they replaced the problematic inflator with a (hopefully) problem-free unit. Now, if they'll just send a buttload of them out to Ford dealers....

The Dakota inflators are completely different than the Mustang ones. I was at our Dodge Dealer the other day. They had a pile of them the size of my desk. Used ones. They have to be paletized for disposal.

The 10th was in December in a 2006 Ford Ranger:

Actually, the Ford Ranger death was the tenth overall and ninth in the USA. It was the first to involve an auto manufacturer other than Honda. The tenth in the USA (eleventh overall and the tenth Honda product) was the Honda Civic in Texas on March 31st.

I do not work for a Ford Dealership... But we have some folks at mine that have had inflators replaced twice already... The info I received today suggested that more of the inflators we have already replaced may have been compromised and need replacement again. They are apparently changing the chemicals used to inflate the bags.

Hey, just got my 2nd official notice that Ford wants to replace my initiator, after the notice that I got last July. Oh, it also says the parts aren't in. Effectively saying: "Uh, check back with us after October". Or rather: "We'll get back to you."

My second letter came today. It said my air bag inflator is at the dealer and to make a appointment to have it replaced. It should take not more than one half of a day.

I called my dealer, he told me he has to order, "as the customer calls for them". The service advisor told me he had ordered two of them for two customers a couple weeks ago and hasn't heard anything about the inflators.

This is going to take a while longer
