Ok Ford, I wanna know, who ya crappin?
Deysha, will you please explain to me and the group here how this "order a car" thing works?
I went to dealer "A" and the salesman verified with the General Mgr that they would sell me the Shelby of my choice at sticker. They had one allotment left. They didn't have a VIN number but they did have a July 2012 build date and delivery date of the end of September.
When I went to dealer "A" 2 weeks later with my deposit to place the order, all of the sudden I was no longer dealing (or even allowed to talk with) the salesman I had originally spoken with. He was there and greeted me cordially, but I was directed to the Sales Manager for my transaction.
The SM refuted every bit of information that the salesman told me about the vehicle regarding color choice, option availability and most importantly... PRICE. He told me that there is no way they would sell a Shelby GT500 at sticker, it will have to be $5000 above sticker. And instead of the $1500 deposit I was told to bring in, the SM told me I would need a minimum $5000 deposit! He did guarantee a July build date & delivery by the first week of October (just to be safe).
I politely told the SM that I am not happy that all the information I was given by the original salesman is now changed and that I'm not paying $5000 more than the price I was quoted (shoulda got THAT in writing). HE said that he didn't blame me, he wouldn't want to pay $5000 ADM either but that doesn't change the fact that they were requiring it.
So I find dealer "B" who has an allocation & is not charging the $5000 ADM. I go in, fill out the order, give him my deposit and get my DORA the next day. Transaction as smooth as silk, no hidden costs, no hidden fees; very nice gentleman.
I called SVT today and they said that my order has been received but is not through processing yet. They told me that they are still building cars from March orders and that I shouldn't expect a VIN or my build to even be scheduled for AT LEAST another 8-12 weeks. After that, I'd be lucky to get the car built & delivered for another 6-8 weeks.
Really? How is it that dealer "A" had a guaranteed July build date & Sept delivery date without a VIN or completed order? Was this just another lie on dealer "A's" part to get me to buy from them? Can they have a guaranteed build date without an order?
And what of this latest twist in the plot of waiting 14 weeks before even getting a build date & then waiting another 8 weeks for delivery of the vehicle? That's 22 weeks! That's INSANE!!!!
Obi Wan (I mean Deysha) you're our only hope! Tell me it ain't so.
And by the way, here is some background on dealership "A". The original salesman I was dealing with @ dealership "A" called me from his personal cell phone the day after I walked out of dealership "A" and told me that he was fired because he didn't fit into dealership "A's" 'tell the customer any lie that it takes to get them to sign the deal.' It was ok with him as he planned to quit the following day anyhow because he didn't feel comfortable with this dealership's "style." Funny thing is, I called the dealership 3 days in a row after he was fired and asked for this person. They said that he was at work that day but currently with a customer. They asked if I could come in anyhow and if he wasn't available; another sales person could help me.
Since this is my local dealership, I stop in there at least once a month just to see what's brewing in the showroom and on the lot. There are only 3 sales-related staff that I can positively say that I know have been there at least 6 months.
Please don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that all dealerships are like dealership "A". BUT, this has been the reputation the car sales industry has gotten over the years and this dealership is a very good indication of why. The only reason I was going to order from them in the first place was because they are literally a 5 minute walk from my front door, they had an allocation & quoted me a price I could live with. As soon as that changed, I drove >20 miles away to a dealership my family has had good luck with in the past.
The experience at dealership "B" is proof that not all dealerships live up to the "reputation."

Come to think of it, it's not even "common courtesy," it's their JOB! The dealership can't even do their job and let the customer know that their car that they've ordered and been eagerly awaiting has arrived! DISGUSTING. As a tier 2 supplier to Ford, if we shipped parts 2 days late, you can bet we'd be getting phone calls from our customer jumping up and down wondering where the parts are and why the parts are 2 days late. Our "On Time Delivery" for our monthly score card would take a big hit for that!
And when I worked at a company that was tier 1 supplier (ship parts directly to Ford assembly plant), Ford did not mess around when there was a problem that could POSSIBLY have been caused by our part. One Friday they showed up at 6pm and stayed until after 10pm. The other supplier who worked on the ignition switches flew across the country to be at our plant @ 8am Saturday. The 3 companies worked 14 hours Saturday and 12 hours Sunday until the root cause of the problem was determined.
It really bothers me that a company that is so strict with their suppliers and holds them at a very high standard would let a car that a customer ordered and has been waiting for sit on their lot for 2 days and not even let the customer know it has arrived. And as I read through parts of this thread, this isn't the only instance. There are at least 2 other posters who have mentioned the same issue; the car arrived but the dealer didn't notify the customer when it arrived.

That's disgusting. You spend what is very likely one year's salary on a vehicle; a vehicle you took the time to order and the dealer doesn't even have the common courtesy to call the purchaser when it comes in. DISGUSTING!

Thank you Deysha, my car arrived today. The entire experience from ordering it, tracking it, and picking it up went wonderful! Ford did an excellent job with this car, and it is simply incredible! Thanks again for your open communication and keeping me up to date with this car.

My car had 37 Miles on it at delivery as well. I was told because of checking car after build, The drive to the rail, rail to the truck etc.. Yada Yada.. I could have turned away delivery but for 37 Miles after waiting 7 weeks I caved.. Plus the gas was only 1/4 tank when I received it. My salesman was in a training function Deysha on this very thread is who told me the car was there. However I am happy with my dealer. Took care of me on so many levels.
Oh a funny story Deysha may like. Because I bugged the sh*t out of my salesman the 7 weeks of waiting he could not get my car out of his mind.. So much so when I went in yesterday to pick my car up the first words he said to me were "Thank You!!" I thought it was because I bought my car from him.. He proceeded to tell me that because of my endless phone calls etc he went to sleep at night with GTHIG V6 in his brain so he bought the one I test drove that they had in stock.. Go Green!!!

I understand your frustration, UOP Shadow. As I’ve mentioned before, the Shelby is part of our Specialty Vehicle line, production/availability can vary from the typical ordering time frames and not all dealers have the same allocation windows. This means that your vehicle may or may not schedule right away as the rest of them. Your selling dealer should be able to tell you which quarter your GT500 is for. They can also explain their special vehicle allocation to you.

Is it true that all the dealers know which quarter a car will be scheduled when the order is placed. I have asked my dealer and he wasn't able to find the information. Is there any other way to get this information. This is for a GT500.

Hi Deysha,
I sent you a PM for quick update. My window sticker came up today with blend date of the 17th. Can you please let me know what all this means? Ford also says that there is a delivery date of 7/21. I am betting that is going to be changing. The sticker say convoy and I am assuming that is truck from the factory to the dealer.
Thank you for your help.
