The headers came in a few weeks ago already and are very nice looking, The wheels are suppose to be done this next week. I have been putting the suspension together but I have not physically gained on the car itself yet. We have been having lots of rain and storms. I wanted to have the car done by the 1st of may but that did not happen.

Also I have been hauling a few times for Level 5 Motorsports and helping my sister out hauling my Nieces and Nephew around to different events.

On The wheels I just specified a 6 3/8" back spacing on the 18 by 9 front wheels and 6 1/2" backspacing on the 18 by 10 rear wheels. The 2004 spindles are suppose to space out .330" more then the fox spindle according to Maximum Motorsports. I am hoping to make some progress this upcoming week and hopefully I will have some pics.

Wow I just read through this entire thread and I am so jealous! My 2000 Mustang V6 is now uninsured and sitting in my driveway under a cover waiting for a new job and my own house to become my project car. I didn't see if you decided on wheels...I have a couple suggestions for you if you haven't. They both come from the Euro-tuner Stretch and Poke style, but I think they would fit the car very well...

First the Schmidt Revolution TH:

http://www.tunershop.com/Wheels/18_i...6x_p53004.html

Second the Rotiform Nue:
http://rotiform.com/products_forged_monoblock_nue.htm

Third the Rotiform BLQ:
http://rotiform.com/products_forged_monoblock_blq.htm

They are all built to order with custom finishes/offsets/backspacing/bolt patterns available. Do a image search to see them on cars. You will only find euro tuned cars that are slammed with them installed, but I think all of these wheels fit the 80s body style and theme of the car. My personal favorites are the Schmidts. I think they would look so sick on your car with the chrome matching the factory chrome bumpers.

I went with a Boze wheel modified with my own logo for a one off effect.

I just bought a 79 Fairmont 2-door sedan on Thursday. It's currently a 200 six, but I intend to drop a nicely warmed over 302 in it.

I have been working on the car a bit. I have no pictures though but I have someone coming to take pictures so i will be able to put some on soon. I installed a 4 post lift and that has made things much nicer. It is a Bendpak xd9.

I have Ford Fairmont coming in with 6,000 actual miles to change over to a 5.0 pushrod aod 8.8 from the original 200 6 cyl. It is coming in on tuesday.

I was really hoping I would have had my car done by now but between waiting for parts and the weather, it has been a challenge. The car should have been off for soda blasting 3 months ago but it still hasn't gotten there. I will be welding in the subframe connectors this week, hopefully early and then stripping it down for soda blasting. One thing I did find out is the seat brackets on the full length sub frame connectors are different then mustang. There are a few differences besides such as the trunk area floor pan is not close. This is all minor but do slow you down.

The wheels are in and mounted and look awesome. I was afraid they would be too much bling but they really grow on you. I ordered too much back spacing for the front but I just added a spacer so pretty minor. The 2004 spindles will space the wheel out about .330 inch also so that will help too.

It's the square body sedan. I plan to v8 swap it and put Mustang suspension stuff under it. Interior is getting a Mustang gauge cluster and dashpad, new carpet, re-cover headliner, etc. It will take a while to do it all, but I'll go little by little re-building it. I just bought the gauge cluster and gauge trim on ebay, will re-wire as needed to make the tach and everything work.

I have a fairmont futura that just came into the shop that I am doing a 302 pushrod efi aod suspension swap. The owner basically bought a mustang drivetrain and we are transplanting it. He had mustang buckets redone with out the headliner and they look amazing. I was so impressed by this I am considering it in my car.

Your project should be cool and fun.

I bought a carpet and headliner and dash cover kit from stockinteriors.com I got this stuff fast and it looks very nice. It was a bit more costly then I wanted to pay but the quality is good and I dont mind paying a bit more for good quality.

The shift indicator is a module that unscrews and slides out of the instrument cluster housing. Fairmonts and Zephyrs with floor shifters had a decorative plate put in it's place.

For the hole left when removing the column shift, it is as easy as finding the upper and lower steering column trim which were standard parts for many Fox platform cars that used a floor shifter. Most plentiful to find in salvage yards are 79-89 Mustangs and 83-88 Tbirds /Cougars with floor shifters.

I am loving this entire thread and now I am having nostalgia for Fairmonts. My favorite will always be the Futura coupe with the Thunderbird styled roofline which was originally a compact Thunderbird design proposal. Then the Fairmont 2-door sedan is so square that it is hip to look at again. Love seeing all the mods using Mustang parts.

I like this one. All black with the Chamois (actual color name) interior and vinyl roof is a nice combo. And yes I would leave the vinyl roof intact just to be rebellous!

I have been working on a fairmont swapping it over from a six cylinder/automatic to a drivetrain out of a 90 gt mustang with a aod on the floor. It is a really nice car with 9,000 actual miles. My zephyr is coming along and someday I will post pictures. I am trying to get someone here to take pics for me so I can do that.

I am swapping in a mustang gt cluster in this fairmont I am doing. I am hoping it just plugs in and works. We are changing the steering column over to a gt one also and had to make a few wire changes. I was hoping it would plug and play but I doubt it will. I think this fairmont should be a sweet ride with it's factory gt suspension and drivetrain but for me this is something that has been done a lot of times and isn't what I wanted my car to be. I will say though the mustang bucket seats swap in the fairmont turned out really nice, they were recovered in a kit and it is like one or 2 shades different but close enough for what the owner wanted. They look real classy and are quite comfy. I am thinking of going this route and having the rear seat redone and door panels to match and a custom built console covered to match.
For my Zephyr:
I ordered CDT 6.5 component speakers for the doors which I bought speaker grill material in a sheet so I can make custom grills and I also ordered the upstage kit for the dash and JL Audio 6x8 component rear speakers. The speakers can handle 450 watts continuous RMS so they should be high quality sound with lots of power. I will run them at some high end amp that pushes them at that level and then run a pair of 10 inch sundown subwoofers this time around. I also am switching the windows to power and I ordered part of the a/c parts to hook up it. I also added XM radio to it since I seem to think I can't be without it. The stereo will probably be about $6500.00 which is more then I wanted to spend but if it sounds right I will be happy.

It is funny the name chamois, I always jokingly call it Butterscotch. I have a few buddies and we always talk about how classy the butterscotch plaid was. I had a T bird of the fox platform once that was forest green and butterscotch trim and the interior had black specks in it that I always said looked like someone puked in it. Ford had some interesting ideas for interiors then. I call the carpet strip on the door panels, a bad acid trip from the 70's. That is just nasty and has to go.

The Mustang GT cluster will not be plug and play. It's best to make sure that you get the connector and pigtail cut from the donor Mustang. You will likely have to correctly re-pin the Fairmont wiring into the Mustang connector in addition to making new connections for the tachometer, voltmeter, oil pressure and temp gauges. The oil pressure and temp sending units will have to be replaced with the correct type that function with gauges.

Also, no need to replace the Fairmont steering column for a Mustang GT one unless it does not have a tilt wheel feature and you want that feature. If the Fairmont column has a shifter on it, simply remove the shifter lever and leave it in the park position and use the upper plastic steering column cover from a Mustang or any floor shift equipped Fox bodied car, such as a 1983-88 Tbird or Cougar. You can optionally remove the entire shifter shaft from the steering column and it will in fact BE the Mustang GT steering column with it removed.

How do I know all this? I swapped the granny cluster in my 84 Tbird with one from a 1997 Mustang with full instruments. I also added an automatic floor shifter from a Mark VII and removed the original shift lever and shaft from the steering column.

You know what you have just done? You have made me decide that I do not want to restore my 84 Tbird with carpeting on the bottom of the doors! I am not doing an exact restore anyway, more of a restomod so the door panels will indeed look better all vinyl.

Back in 1978 a friend of mine bought a brand new 1978 Tbird. It was beautiful. It was midnight blue with the chamois colored split vinyl top and chamois vinyl interior with flight bench seats. I remember that was a great color combo back then.
