JonCo: Even though I managed to go a year without posting, I did a ton of mods based on stuff I learned from TMS members - this is a great forum; the best, actually. I was one of the lucky Saleen installs. My S/C cleared the firewall seams by 1/4 inch and I didn't have to get lower motor mounts to clear the hood. And thank you for the complement.

Dave: Yes, that is the CDC hood scoop. I've never been really happy with the non-functionality but at the time I really was hot for a hood scoop. I was always confident that one day a hood would be designed that I would gladly take the loss - what with the hood pins and all. Well, that design is the GTS-2 and I have no regrets about losing the CDC/paint investment.

I've posted a picture of a blue '67, please note the trailing edge of the hood. It would look stupid if the trailing edge of any scoops on this hood were curved. I've also posted one of the TruFiber GT500 hood photos so we can all see the big curve in the trailing edge of the hood (like we can't see it on our own cars) . If it was the intent of the 68 designers to make the rear of the scoops run parallel to the rear of the hood then why can't designers of retro GT350 and GT500 hoods make the trailing edge of the scoops follow the curve of the hood. It's a natural progression in design. From all of the posts concerning the DCF hood, it looked good and a lot of folks liked it. DCF conviently took very few pictures of the trailing edge design of the hood and after I saw a few photos of it later on I was disappointed that DCF didn't complete the design package. I cannot speak for others but the reason I was attracted to the DCF hood was because the design married the look of the raised portion of the stock S197 hood and the dual snorkle intake of the '68 Shelby. It could never be an exact match because the 60's mustang hoods were almost as flat as a pancake. Our S197s have flowing curves both laterally and fore and aft.

TruFiber finally got it right on their GT500 prototype (Venom?) hood but unfortunately it doesn't help those of us who can't afford or don't want to do the GT500 front end upgrade.

As I stated initally just because the 68 had a square cutoff doesn't wash with me in a design for the S197.

P.S. I'm not shooting the messenger here.

just my $.02

All true. This is a the reason why I'm still alittle dissapointed in the hood.

BOB,
I do see you point, but to a lot of us it looks fine, yes, I would like it if it swooped around myself, but not a deal breaker for me, it still looks GREAT...the trailing edge you would love if you never saw the new gt 500 hood.
Are only option is to say the heck with buying the GTS 2 hood, and hound the crap out of trufiber to make a GTS3 hood with the swoopy back.
Every hood is going to have something you dont love..as far as the new Gt 500 hood, the one thing I dont care for is the "removable louvers". i like the louver, but making them removable gives it a cheap look I dont like and a new seam for debris to collect, and lips to deform and breakoff!
I think the GTS2 hood is pretty darn nice...although not entirely perfect, what it boils down to is, cant please everybody all the time!
Phil, even said, he had phone calls from a few guys who want the squirters in the hood

Actually the GT500 proto type rear edge looks a lot like the Cervini Type IV Ram Air Hood rear edge. The weird thing about the Cervini hood is that I saw some install photos in these forums on a white S197 with blue stripes and it looked awesome. Then I saw the same hood on a Torch Red S197 and it looked blocky and bulky, like they were two different style hoods. Since I have a Torch Red car without stripes I've pretty much ruled out the Type IV. I do like the level of completeness of the underside of all of the TruFiber hoods.

This hood painted looks great to me and will definately be a hit on my car...JMO I guess. The transition lines that go back from the ends of the straight part make this hood flow very nice to give it that slight swoopy look..I think this hood will be perfect for those of us that want a real smooth agressive look, but not over the top! This hood will look like Ford put it on there from the factory, just like the CDC classic chin spoiler that so many of us have...the thing looks totally natural on the car!

I agree. Painted should make it 100x's better.

Hey guys! This is Scott, I am the one with the white/grey GT that is sponsored by TruFiber. I currently have the new GTS2 hood in the paint shop. It will be done by Friday, but I will not be posting any pictures on any forums until Sunday(9/23) night after it debuts at the Mustangs at the Queen Mary show in Long Beach, CA.
The hood fits perfect. It will not however work with hood pins due to the ram air routing for this style of hood. I had FRPP pins on my car with the 67' Shelby GT500 style hood that I am replacing with the new one, but I have removed them. And, yes, this hood will work with any and all twin screw blowers. I have an H.O. Whipple on my car and had no clearance issues with the stock hood, and the new hood has a relief similar to a cowl hood, but is completely finished underneath. It uses all of the factory hardware and is easy bolt-on, and I also use the Steeda hood struts with no issues at all.

Feel free to pm or email me with any specific questions. I'll do my best to keep up here in th eforum. I can regularly be reached on www.mustangforums.com.

Scott

Scott,

Thanks for the update!!!!

Looking forward to seeing more pics on Sunday!

A LOT of folks are interested in how the back line looks with paint - if you could take some shots from a few different angles of the rear edge, we'd very much appreciate it!

Thanks again.

Bill

I will take pics of every angle and the bottom. I read the posts about the curve. It does not have a curve to the back of the scoop if I remember correctly. It is only curved at the windshield. I will post the pics Sunday might, though. When I bolted the hood on for a test fit(I have the first GTS2 hood made by them), I was blown away at its good looks. It looks very agressive, but due to the softer edges of the scoop, it looks like a natural fit on this body style.

Ok guys, here's the latest. Today Phil got a call from the paint shop that is doing my hood(why they called him and not me, I have no idea!), andthey told him that the hood was going to take another 3 to 4 days to finish!! I took it to them last week, with them telling me that it would be done by the end of this week for the show. I called yesterday, and was told it was in the paint booth drying and would not be done with the final color sanding of the clear coat until Saturday afternoon. I said I was leaving for Long Beach Saturday afternoon, and needed it in the morning. I was going to have to drive the car there hoodless, bolt it on and haul ***. I am so friggin ****ed right now I can't see straight. There has been much hype about this hood debuting at the show, and no I feel like a turd in the lawn! Phil is mad as hell too, because the shop is supposed to become a new distributor for him, and already they screwed him. I have another body shop I usually deal with, and we decided to let this new shop do it due to the fact that they are a custom Stang shop and do some awsome work. We asked them if they could have it done in time, and they said "definitely"! God****it, I'm ready to go postal on someone right now.

I was told that it should be ready by the end of next week. I'm sorry to disappoint you guys, but I will post pics the minute I get the friggin thing back from paint and bolt it on.
