FRPP Hot Rod Cams installed - Idle is now surging/bouncing - Any ideas?
Does anyone know if these cams will work on automatic mustangs without a torque converter change? I am seriously thinking of selling my 89 coupe and getting cams and procharger for my 07GT. Just wish I would have bought a manual instead of an automatic.

All I can say is you need a tune from Brent at Brenspeed!

Wow! And you said you gained roughly 20rwhp through the curve? How did the idle/lope change?

Matt,
I got closer to 25 at the wheels. My idle/lope is definitely more aggressive than the stock cams. You can tell it has cams. But it is not as aggressive as the Hot Rod cams.
Not at all Matt. He just supports and installs Comp cams. Both the Comp cams and Hot rod cams only have 1 mm more total lift than the stock cams. They are both safe on the stock springs.
Cams sound awsome!!
You said you were near Detroit. I am somewhat near there also, Howell. Reason I ask is that I saw a car like yours in Howell when we were cruzing one night. Also was wondering who you used as your install. I have used hines Park Ford for our cold air intake and exhaust instal, only because theres not to many FRPP places around. I WILL HAVE THOSE CAMS SOON!!!! Oh and by the way GO WINGS!!!!! Aint no party like a Detroit party!!!
), but at this price and with those results it is so difficult to stay away!!!!!
I'm downriver - in Taylor, to be specific. I work in Ann Arbor though, so I had Varsity Ford do the install. They work on more race applications than typical dealerships, and it was the best quote I got after contacting 10 shops.
If you want these cams you better get your order in and get on the wait list. They're very scarce.
Wings should have won it at home, but screw it, we're the friggin' champs
And there is no party like a Detroit party, cause a Detroit party don't stop!

Scott, Any idea how the Comp NSR cams respond to boost?

They should work just great. Remember all they are doing is helping the engine breath better. Letting more air and fuel in the cylinders. Ben (EleanorDreaming) had the Comp NRS cams installed the same day as I did. He is running a 100 horse shot of nitrous and his car did like 390 at the wheels. His car pulls hard.

I don't have a before and after dyno pull of just the cams. But I gained 37hp and 17 lbs peak to peak and 41 hp 0 torque at 6000 with cams, obx longtubes and delete plates. You can see it here. http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showthread.php?t=463971
See post #30 for the dyno sheet made last Oct before cams, headers and plates and the dyno pull made in Feb. after cam install.
What is interesting about these aftermarket cams is they really only boost hp and not the torque values. The stock cams are producing the max amount of torque these little engines make N/A anyway.

Just to mention, if you're wondering about cams that work well with blowers, call Brent or Dave at Brenspeed- they have their version of the Comp Cams NSR cams but modified slightly to better benefit blowers. They work well with blowers to help accentuate lower end torque too, but especially top end HP.
Does anyone know if the HOT Rod cams with the proper tune can be a Emissions Friendly Cam?
I know Doug can give Emissions friendly tunes normally but does anyone know if that can be done with these cams?

I was considering staying N/A and going with one of the NSR cams, or getting a supercharger. I inquired with Brenspeed about their thoughts and they responded that the Comp Cam NSR kit (that I was considering at the time) would work very well with the Vortech centrifugal blower.
I've had the blower installed, but am still wondering about doing the NSR cams (either Comp or FRPP).

Well if I could get the same power out of the FRPP hot cams as I did with the Comp NRS cams and get that lopey idle I would do the Hot cams. But I still have not seen an independant dyno test yet. I love their sound but still not convinced they make the same power.
