Dadblasted hades.
There is the EXACT same house, in the rich section of town. The lot is twice the size-its an estate lot, not a garden house. The bonus room has a walk in closet in it, PLUS it has more room- and another bathroom, and tile, and marble walls, and hardwood, Stainless appliances and a jetted round tub.
And the **** kicker is I can swing it.
WHAT TO DO?
For all those upgrades all I give up is my baby I built from the ground up. I give up the horrible neighbors and a five foot between houses.

I have built two houses myself [with builders] and I am a member of out Home Builders Assn. so here is some advice; you can take it or leave it:
1. DO NOT close and sign for anything unless the house and all items are completed OR you are able to have them escrow enough to cover what is not done. You may need the place to live but the builder probably needs the $$ more to pay his subs. Trust me, once you close and the builder gets his $$, you will play heck getting him back to take care of unfinished items [that includes sod, finish trim, light bulbs, and overall cleanup].
2. If the house is not completed, DO NOT close. If you have to close, get enough money escrowed to take care of whatever has not been done or has been done wrong [like wrong color marble].
Hope I made it clear enough. If you do check earlier posts, I did give you warning that it would not be done. Builders and realtors ALWAYS tell you what you want to hear.

Yes indeed you did warn me.........
At this point I was going to be homeless 3 weeks anyhow.
I am honestly thinking of taking the upgraded(finished) one.

If they will let you do it, then go for it. You can alway re-paint later.
My father in law owned the second largest development/construction comp in his area of Kansas. Hubby has ALWAYS said it is best to buy something already built and remodel (as long as its minor) than to build from ground up. Take any time frame they give you, and double it.

Oh GOD!
I did it.
I bought the other house.
Its over.
Firm closing- high noon Friday. House is 100% complete- has bigger yard, and LOTS of upgrades.
Its red brick instead of Grey.......
It has stainless appliances.
It has sidewalks
It has 3 bathrooms..
Its in the nicer(nicest) section of the development
It has ceramic tile instead of linoleum
It has ceramic backsplashes in the kitchen
It has a 120X120 lot as opposed to a 60X60
AND the builder had to reimburse us for the Data we ran in the other house.
It also has Hardwood in the dining room instead of carpeting.
I am giving up:
My half wall
My blue baths
My scrappy neighbors
Eleanor navigating a construction zone
thats all......

I just got a new drivers license- with the old address on it. CRAP!
I am now officially living out of boxes. Four more nights in here.
This house is honestly cooler- it has all the stuff I wanted for the other but were out of my "budget" the builder gave us.

BUT its beautiful!
We call them tall and skinnies. They are all the rage here in HB now. Most of the owners are selling thier homes built in the 50s, and builders are coming in putting up these things.
They are gorgeous, and I wouldnt turn one down if I could get my hands on one for like $500k... But, at that price, the set up is kinda funky. Bedrooms are TINY, cept for the master suite of course, which typically encompasses the entire third floor.
If we do buy one, there will be a lot of remodeling. It doesnt need 4 bedrooms, and I would put a 4th deck, on the roof. Which means, it wil be sometime before we buy one. Gotta come up with about 200k extra for the remodel.
My goal is to buy three lots facing the water, knock down the middle tall and skinny, put a pool/garden/courtyard in where it stood, and connect the other two houses around it. One wing will be bedrooms, other will be entertaining, office, library, kitchen. I have a deadline of 2010 for that to happen. Now, I just need to get my company off the ground, and get filthy rich so I can make my $20 million house happen!
It healthy to have high goals, right?? LMAO

congratulations on being not homeless!
But now you'll have to remodel the house, you have to tear down a wall to put in your half-wall, replace the light fixtures with the ones you want, and repaint the walls
This one doesn't have orange walls does it?
Congratulations and I'm glad this adventure is coming to a close for you, although I'll miss the excitement of this thread when its laid to rest

I sent my resume to a dealer in CA. I was thinking about this one but it only has a pool size lot and no pool.
