The Corvette also uses the same key fob as Cadillac:

Buick has a nice one too!

Ford needs to get with making details of it's vehicles seem more advanced and special. I am not interested in a Fusion key for my Mustang at all since the blade is still exposed and does not flip. We should be at the point we dont need a blade at all, just a coded transponder in our pockets. Touch the door handle with the correct transponder in our pocket and it should unlock. Sit down with the transponder in our pocket and you should be able to push the start engine button and go.

watchdevil: I agree. The Lincoln lineup is the laughing stock of "luxury domestic" cars. Even the Lincolns use the same Fusion key. Ford could learn from Mazda and Volvo, whom already offer keyless ignition systems.

I've lost one of my key/remotes. Is there any way around going to the dealer to replace it?

The guy must've read this post. He's now marketing them to Mustang owners. And charging more, of course.

If you still have two keys you can buy a remote anywhere and do the programming routine yourself. If you only have one key, you need to go to the dealer.

ok, here is some more insite on this whole key in a fob issue.

I have in my garage,
2000 Taurus
2005 Escape
2006 Mustang

NOW, I bought a blank key in a fob for use with my 2006, not knowing that there was any difference. I have not had the key cut. Just trying to get the fob part working.

I can program the new key in a fob to the 2000 and the 2005 but NOT the 2006
I can program the fobs for both the 2000 and the 2005 to the 2006 and also the 2006 to both the 2000 and the 2005.

I even went to ford to have the new key in a fob "flashed" for use with the 2006 and they couldnt do it.. (They took the car and fobs out of my sight, so I think they only tried to program it like I had already done. By cycling the key 8 times, rather then flashing the chip in the new key)

I really cant explain why they FORD fobs are interchangeable, but the new style isnt. I really would like to raise hell at the dealer untill they change out the receiver thats in the car so I can use the new key, but I dont think I stand a snow ***** chance in hell of getting them to do it.....
Ford did something to the 05-06 stangs thats different from the others, and even the dealer doesnt know what it is.

I can tell you that there is NO part number for the new key for the 05-06 mustangs. They do show listing for the new key for "other" models.

As for the new key in a fob. I see that everyone is jumping on the fusion bandwagon. ALL of the new style keys that I have seen have the SAME FDD ic numbers so it really doesnt matter if its a fusion,,, taurus, escape, ect key. They should all work with the 07 + mustangs and really any other ford made since at least 2000. (based on my own research)

I do have access to a fox body mustang, and also an 07 Mustang GT, just havent tried to program the new key to them yet.

So as of now, I have a blank (uncut) key in a fob thats just sitting here.. So if anyone wants it, PM me for the price. (what I paid for it plus $5 shiping) I can send you the link to the auction that I won so you know im not jerking you around.

Just an idea based off this...

What if, someone who had an '05-'06 Mustang, got a newer Mustang fob (from the '07-'08 model year) and programed it like normal... You would then have two working fobs, one new and one old... THEN, turned around and tried to program the 'Fusion' key with the newly programed fob... Anybody think that might work?

Just trying to think outside the box...

like I said, I can program the new fob to the two older vehicles, and thier stock fob to the mustang, but I cant program the new fob to the mustang.

But I like your thinking, so when I get over to my friends house this weekend, I'll try to program his stock fob to my car. then the new fob to my car.

I'll let ya know the results..

Heres the scoop.

I finally got the chance to try to program the new fob to my friends 07. It still didnt work. So I have contacted the person I bought it from, and have asked for a refund.

As for the programming the 07 remotes to my 06. I didnt do that. As I have already stated that I have programed the 2000 and the 2005 to my 06, and the new key still wouldn't work.

Hey guys I had a problem with my Fusion key and was wondering if you could help.

I have an 08 Focus. I had the key cut and programmed it myself. The key starts the car and unlocks the doors, however it doesn't pop the trunk.

Has anyone run into this problem with the Mustangs?

Got my fusion key last week, went to a locksmith to have it cut and plug the machine to the computer to have the chip programmed! Works AWESOME! I'm glad I did it.

was going to start a thread to ask a question, but stumbled on this, and its a kinda related question:

we have a VB 06 Gt and a VB 07 pony (just got the 07 saturday). playing around last night, I programmed my 06 fob to do both cars, works fine...
even used a spare from our 98 windstar for the 07 (works fine also- but didnt try it on the 06- if reading this correctly, THAT fob wont work on the 06?)

as an option to buying new fobs, a guy over at blueoval posted a thread on hacking the fob/key together, looks/works great...I'll see if I can find a link

next step is- does anyone know if Fords double sided keys have tumblers only on one side or both? I'm thinking about getting keys cut for one car on one side, other car on other side, maybe even getting the fusion keys- I'd love to get rid of one key and both fobs...I know in the old fords the tumblers were single sided so this was possible, just not sure with all the security stuff if double/offset tumblers exist or not in the new locks- I'm almost certain door and trunk are single sided, but gotta wonder about ignition.
