So I got bored today and started thinking about foglights and such in the II. right now I've got those fat ol' turn signals in the grille so I made a gif to illustrate what I want.

I saw these at mustangii.net and decided I want them

so that explains the darkness over the headlights. I'll probably take them off at night like I do now with the bullitt. anyhow. the turn signals will be a string of orange LEDs behind the black mesh grille. that way, you won't even notice them until they are used. The orange you see in the gif is just to illustrate a rough idea of shape and is meant to be the "glow" not the actual turn signal assembly thingy.

I like the center mounted fog look, so thats what i went with for those. I want them just a bit smaller than the headlights. I forgot to put it in, but the cobra will be mounted offset onto the driver side

anyhow, heres the gif

yeah... I like lense flares

I really like your turn signal idea. THat has to be the coolest thing I seen yet for a II. I might have to steal the idea myself.

Neat gif. Sorry about your not winning the auction and the other things you had to face. As long as you don't go emo, you'll be fine.

Emo FTL

If anything, I'll just be angry. I'm hoping to scrounge the cash to pay for school next year (I'm paying myself next year) and enough to move out with a friend of mine. Then I won't have the issue of parents trying to control my life anymore

calling all stock 302 C4 mustangs...

So I took the II out today, just to see how fast it could go top end. I had hit 120 years ago when the car had a 105hp V6. I've now got a roller 302 with an edelbrock performer 289 and a 4bbl carb, some decent exhaust and a stock (i believe) C4 automatic

Heres the thing, the car is not acting how i think it should. It pulls HARD until about 90mph, and then stops. I can even tell that the engine is acting differently because it sounds different once I hit 90. It completely stops accelerating. This bothers me because it really does not feel that that's how its supposed to act. I know 302s, especially carb'd variants aren't big on top end power, but stopping at 90? this is ridiculous.

I want to hear how other 302 C4 combos are acting for people. Stock/mostly stock would be ideal.

I know my car isn't some earthquake making, ground pounding beast.. but it sure as hell shouldnt be quitting altogether at 90. it went 120 with the V6 (though it surely took longer to get there)

I just have this feeling that i should be able to at least hit the 120 I had before...

It also occured to me that I have bigger tires now, 205/65/R15 vs 195/55/R13. I know that, like gears, would effect top end a little but surely not this drastically...
Maybe my carb needs a better, more qualified mechanic (read: REAL mechanic) to tune it, but with the amount of grunt it has down low I am skeptical that im that terrible at what i did.

If anyone could give any tips, hints or knowledge about this situation as well as info about what their combos feel like at those speeds, iI'd really appreciate it

Thanks guys, but now its time for bed

I've never been brave enough to do a top end test...but I do know on the dyno last spring the dude pegged the speedo...and it kept going faster after that.....but that was with zero wind resistance....so its not a very reliable test.

In my 'less responsible' years, I managed to take my 69 Stang up to 100 with the 2bbl 302 / C4 with stock 2.79 rear and 195/75R14s. It felt like it still had some left in it, but 69 stangs arent the most aerodynamic things out there and the 'shimmying' was an indication i should slow down

Arin, what are you using for the ignition system? Could there be a speed limiter in it somewhere? What is the RPM when it tops out? Duraspark ignitions aren't the best at high rpm's but should pull to at least 5500-6000. How about the transmission being governed? What did it come from? I'd check out the throttle lever for full movement and how well it revs to about 6000, then look into the trans being the trouble. If you had a really big gear (like 5.89's or bigger, I know, not likely) then I'd say that was the problem.

I'll fill you in on more specific details of my ignition system tomorrow when theres daylight, but I know the distributor is the stock from the lincoln it was in. I'll shower the thread with pics when i can

as for RPM, i couldnt quite tell because my instrument cluster doesn't light up lol. my speed was being checked via GPS, which I would trust more than my speedo anyhow. The engine doesnt seem to have an RPM limiter since I've revved it to 6K in park before, and thats where the 1-2 shift is. I'm never really paying attention at the 2-3 shift. The trans.. well all I know is its a somewhat recently rebuilt C4. dunnot if theres a shift kit or not, I've never felt a stock C4 to compare it to. But like i said, it does chirp into second gear... I have no idea what its out of though

My rear end is either 3.55 or 3.00, i never bothered to check, but its a stock V6 axle and the biggest gear available for that was the 3.55.

All day was spent goofing off and trying to install a tach on my friend's Galaxie.. there was not nearly enough wire to reach the coil from where we had it mounted lol, and we still need to find a way to hook up two more of the wires.. sigh

Thanks for the tips and info guys, I'll see what else I can find out tomorrow

good and bad news lol

first the bad, my powersteering decided to stop again. no idea why, but i'll let it be.

The good is my seatbelt works flawlessley now. I used to really have to finesse it and fiddle for a while before i could get it to work. I just unscrewed the cover/guide on the bottom mount and it works perfectly! WOOT! No more pain in the *** beginings to my drives

Umm, having steering control is kind of important? Does it make the "typical Ford power steering pump noise?" Wondering if the pump is "matched" to the steering rack...

cool idea with the led's for turn signals, and congrats on 10k again

as long as the power steering doesnt lock up the steering, you'll just get a workout going for a drive

to be honest, I had no idea what to look for when searching for any kind of speed limiter, so I took a bunch of pics hoping they would make some sense to some one

I didn't have time to tinker on the old gal today, I was running around getting parts and wires to install that tach in his Galaxie 500 (which is a hilarious story in its own right )

I drive the car whenever I can, and I didn't have power steering working for a year or so. It was just a blessing for a few weeks and its back to normal again. Its nothing but a mild workout for me now. Gotta stay in shape somehow!

I personally love the feedback the wheel has compared to, say, Brian's Galaxie 500

I once had my '69 302 C4 up to 104mph indicated on the speedo. Tires may have thrown that off some, of course. Her behavior at that speed did not really encourage you to explore beyond that point.

By contrast, the '06 has been to 110mph, and felt like she was saying, "Well?? Are we just going to lollygag around, or are you going to get serious about this?" Very stable and secure feel in the handling, even at high speed. It was on an airport ramp, BTW. Only the available asphalt kept us from exploring further.

Never had the '66 on the road to be able to explore its top-end, but I've had the '84 up to around 100, 85 is all thats indicated, '07 have run 104 in the 1/4 mi. had it up to 130 mph at an undisclosed location.

Still no idea on what's up with your II.

Where are speed limiters normally located?

Do you guys think the distributor has anything to do with it? I know its a carry over from the LSC, but i also know that the LSC was limited about 50mph higher than my 90. Could it be reacting less than stellarly with my hacked up V6 wiring harness?

The other option is that its something with the transmission, but i have no idea why. Its an old transmission, and on top of that I wouldn't even know where to look.

Argh. I generally don't even go over 90. 75-80 is my freeway number. But its bugging me that I can get out done by the 1994 L4 Mazda FWD sedan I used to drive. Especially since i've gone PAST that before.

I don't like my car being limited
