I'm late to the discussion, but the ball did come into contact with the ground and it did jostle it loose in his arm. He goes to the ground with the nose of the ball in his hand, and when you see it next, his hand is wrapped around the side of the ball with the points facing perpendicular to his arm. All that said, he caught the ball, turned and tried to reach for the goal line with it before any part of him or the ball came into contact with the ground. It was a catch and the cowboys got screwed over.

Then I guess my question is even though it may at first be in hand, then between forearm and body - but never "free" - just repositioned within the player's control, is that considered "loose ball"?
I do not consider that "jostled loose". He kept it under his control - never free to roll away. But who knows how refs think.

Its a nut that comes off of a buckeye tree (its a deciduous hardwood) Similar to a chestnut. We have some down here, I'll find buckeyes in the woods from time to time. I think there's some in a bowl around here right now.

They're about as big around as a quarter. Smaller than a walnut, larger than an acorn.

Honestly, he caught the ball in the air and if it moves after that, he's simply "recovering possession" once it's repositioned in his arm. He took two steps, lunged for the goal line. How much more of a football move does he have to make to verify possession of the ball? Stupid call, and a poor interpretation of the rule to me.

Sorry about tonight, Charlie.

I really wanted Oregon to win, but dang. Is that the greatest Championship run ever? Has any team ever won that many big games under that type of circumstance? I tip my hat to Urban Meyer.
