Robert & Zippy... Again!!

Robert Hight earns 3rd Funny Car victory in a row at Southern Nationals

Published May 19, 2014·
Associated Press

COMMERCE, Ga. – Robert Hight raced to his third Funny Car victory in a row and fourth overall this season on Monday at the rain-delayed NHRA Southern Nationals.

Hight, the 2009 Funny Car world champion, defeated John Force Racing teammate Courtney Force in a thrilling final at Atlanta Dragway with a performance of 4.049 seconds at 315.05 mph in his Ford Mustang.

Force, who was trying to earn the 100th victory for women in NHRA history, trailed in her Mustang with a 4.117 at 316.01. It was the sixth final-round appearance in a row for Hight, who extended the John Force Racing team's consecutive final round streak to 14 races.

"We've just got to take it one run at a time," said Hight, who won his 33rd career event.

"It's a total team effort. First round I was able to save it and pedal the car. Second round my team definitely saved me. My brain got a mental overload. Luckily my team gave me a 4.05 that run. After that we got in sync, we were back as a team again."

Spencer Massey (Top Fuel), Jeg Coughlin (Pro Stock) and Eddie Krawiec (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also were winners at the NHRA Drag Racing Series event.

In Top Fuel, Massey beat Doug Kalitta with a 4.269 at 245.85 to claim his first win of the season and 15th of his career. Massey became the third Don Schumacher Racing driver to win a Top Fuel event in 2014, joining teammates Antron Brown and Spencer Massey.

Jeg Coughlin powered his Dodge Dart to his 57th career Pro Stock win with a 6.558 at 211.63, defeating rival Greg Anderson in the final. The win earned Coughlin, the five-time and reigning Pro Stock world champion, his third career victory at Atlanta and first of the season.

Krawiec was the dominant racer all weekend in Pro Stock Motorcycle, racing to victory as the No. 1 qualifier over teammate Andrew Hines with a final-round performance of 6.806 at 197.45. It was the first win of the season for Krawiec, a three-time Pro Stock Motorcyle world champion. It was his third win at Atlanta Dragway.

**** that, those ****ers would be giving me a Challenger or something to drive if I just bought a new car and it was already ****ed after 200 miles. Hell, I'd be camped out for an SRT vehicle, **** them. That's a lot of money to be stranded that soon. Somebody would have a sore **** hole.

Hey Jill,

My 92 year old great aunt is a recipe freak, and baking nut. Collecting recipes is basically all she has left in life, its her hobby along with baking. I told her about those pecan pie muffins you mentioned a while back. Well long story short, she made some for me yesterday and they are awesome. She's an excellent baker, she said she had a similar recipe she got from someone down here in Mississippi years ago. They had too much butter, she would eliminate the 1/3rd stick of butter, just use one stick, and add one teaspoon of vanilla extract. Said that was what she would do next time. Can
t wait, because she is one of the best bakers ever.

Even had a recipe for a pecan muffin with chocolate in it that sounded amazing.

Glad you liked them. Ask her to make note of whatever changes she makes to improve on them....and don't forget to let me know so I can make them with her changes some time. We are going riding this weekend and I may make some to take with us.

Jeep was low on oil. Not sure if it was a leak or not right now. The service manager is keeping it for another night to be sure everything is okay.

Never checked any fluids on any new or used vehicle I've ever bought. Don't think I'm alone in this category?

Just a quick visual check of the engine bay to make sure there's coolant and brake fluid, but now I will do a FULL check of everything lol

Oil issues seem to be following me. I still.need to find out how low. Gotta push for some compensation too. Free lifetime extended warranty sounds good.

You mean you actually trust the monkey's at the stealership? Its not like the one's doing dealer prep are the highest paid on the lot.

My machines and I have an agreement as soon as I take ownership - I take care of them and they take care of me.

Seems like no one checks fluids or tire pressures any more.

I'm betting 2 qts low at least to affect VVT. You never heard any valve rattle or tick did you?

It would be the factory's job to fill the fluids, not a porter or detailer. Still, as part of a PDI, fluids should be checked. Who's to say it wasn't full from the factory?

Regardless, that's what dealer prep is for. And that's what (wise) owner's do next before they start it up the first time.

You do remember how many 5.0's were low from the dealer/factory right? And how many used quite a bit of oil at first - but many here were shocked when they were 2 & 3 qts low. Plenty of posts were made.

Until you establish usage, frequent checking is just good practice.

Yep I almost mentioned the 5.0s in that post. That's what I meant with PDI, the fluids should've been checked. And yeah, they *could* have been full from the factory, but the new Pentastar might have burned through that oil like the 5.0s did in 2011-12...

They say rings seat within the first hundred miles or so. But there was never any explanation why the 5.0's used so much for the first few thousand miles. Had to be ring related IMO

Neither my 4.6 or my Cruiser's 2.4 I4 used any oil.
