On August 5th, there is a regional meeting for dealers and salesman taking place in Omaha Ne. (Probably meetings all over the US) I was informed, that on the agenda is Mustang, future plans for this model as well as the Explorer.
I will post any info I get after the meeting if I'm in town next Thursday.
My insider will be asking about the BOSS 302 if no info is announced at the meeting.

All else being equal, I'd definitely prefer the R1 version but the rumors seem to indicate that Ford will likely only produce a very limited number of R1 Boss Mustangs which means they will only end up in the garage of the Ron Pratt's of the world and NOT the rest of us. I'd prefer Ford produce enough R1 Boss Mustangs that the average buyer could afford one.
That is certainly a fair point but given the safety requirements placed on new cars, I don't think Ford will be able to shave enough weight to make 430 hp a significant improvement in the overall performance of the car. By it's very design, the Boss should weigh less than the GT and offer a truly balanced performance package. HP certainly isn't the only component to the Boss equation but a 18 hp boost just doesn't cut it IMHO
Horsepower by itself is just a number. The '07 GT500 showed that an impressive horsepower number does not an impressive sports car make. At least, not if you like going around corners.
Given the choice, I would prefer the BOSS 302 put out 430 HP and weigh less than the GT as opposed to 480 HP and weigh more than the GT.
I'm a fan of Colin Chapman's thinking: "To go faster, just add lightness."

Boss Homecoming?
This is just a ventured guess, but wouldn't it make sense to reveal the new Boss at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion? Since the 2012 Boss is based on those 69/70s which were built for Trans-Am and the Monterey Reunion has a good number of the original Boss Trans-Am race cars in attendance at a track (Laguna Seca) where a Boss 302 won in 1970? Lots of Boss connections.
I read the reveal might be on August 13th, which would fall during the RMMR weekend.
I don't know, just guessing.

Team Mustang Source
The one with the rear seat delete...I'll take the Recaros and the no option plan...also the $ and HP will be higher than the Speed TV video stated

We'll know for sure in a few weeks!
I'm really interested to see how this compares to the GT500 once it's out. The extra reduction in weight could make up for the lack of power, which would make it really interesting.
