V8's sound nice but honestly it's the seat of the pants performance that really brings a smile. See how Ford already has the EB4 running in GT territory. You can bet if they do offer the GT in EB6 power it will have a solid jump in performance numbers to silence the nay sayers.

It's 50 years of Mustangs. I say do whatever you need to Ford to keep the Mustang in production for another 50.

Meh, its just common sense this will happen, its just more visible now with 2 new major performance models out of Ford without a V8.
I can bet that they will have a special version Ford GT down the road with the Gt350s engine, but maybe not.....Who knows?

Think of it this way, if they go full Ecoboost on all models, raising their CAFE MPGs, that might allow them to still offset one Performance model with the worst MPG rating, and still offer the last V8 Ford motors (5.0, 5.2, and Supercharged model) and what other car but the Mustang.

But I'm not going to say that this will last forever, in the future ,there will be all electric Mustang, and no amount of tears will stop that.

If Ford gets it right the way Buick did, I would welcome and purchase a turbocharged V6 Mustang and would hope that the V8 would remain an option. Sorry for the old pic, it's the only surviving one I have.
I still have this bad boy in my garage. 1989 Turbo Trans Am. Quickest production Trans Am ever produced!
But I will always like a V8 better then a V6 or a 4. You can't beat the sound or drive of a V8.

Another thing - it could be worse if Ford created a Mustang hybrid. That would be blasphemy.

The V8 is not going the way of the dinosaur anytime soon. Large truck drivers (SD not Raptor), are going to want a V8 option and simplicity of a NA large engine.

It would be foolish for Ford to do such a thing (I believe it's all a big rumor and sheeple are sheeple), as this would cause a major loss in market share to another brand whether its a GM, Chrysler, Hyundai etc...

Heck, if the Mustang only was offered in a V6, you know what I would do...

I would buy something else with a V8!

I'm sorry. NO.

When you say "EB4 running in GT territory" you mean a tuned, modified EB approaching the numbers of a BONE STOCK V8. The V8s are good for over a 1000hp with forced induction, so the little EB4 can suck it.

Let's see EB4 get to 500hp and last 200k miles. Not by 2017. I'll keep my V8.

Anyone know what the projected mpg is for the new Ford GT. It would be a hoot if it boasted 30+mpg.

You're right. Tesla model S can spank a 2014 C7 Corvette. I'd rather have an all electric mustang than a EB car. Electric motors have TORQUE.

That's what I meant. Ford offers a tuner to bring the EB4 numbers way up. Hard to do that with a NA engine.

But they don't have the range of a gasoline powered car. How many miles can you go on a full charge? How long to recharge? Batteries are for powering flashlights, not cars.

Ahh, now I see what you mean. Yeah, a few tuned cars a and mass produced, reliable power are two different things.

260 miles on a full charge. Those electric cars are impressive.

But... then you have to charge it for 8 hours after. I work in the auto industry, and right now I'm at our winter test facility in northern MN for cold weather testing. We have to beat the snot out of our electric cars. Which is cool...until they run out of charge. Since we can't afford 8h of down time charging them from the outlet what do we do? We use a 480V diesel generator to charge them. That's right. See the irony? The technology is still young though.

The only reason you are driving a gas powered car now and not an electric car is because of the electric starter motor. Once it became easy to start a gas powered car it became the default favorite of the buying public. Up until that time it was a dead heat between gas and electric powered vehicles.

With respect to range and recharge, I recommend you look into graphene. It is already revolutionizing battery technology and it's applications are not yet fully known but rest assured, it's going to change everything.

Electric is still way off, specially for a electric mustang, but soon enough the expensive technology will trickle down to average car market, then it will bloom.
Batteries are ever evolving, just because what you see now is limited, doesn't mean 10-20 years from now , you wont see 1000Mile range, 3 minute full charge, 600hp cars.
Cant be close minded to what we have now, and what it can be in the future.

I would be more worried about everything going autonomous, tho I'm all for that technology, it will impact sport cars in a big way down the line.

One day, combustion engines will be viewed by future generations same as we look at Steam Locomotives today.

Sounds like a cool job! :-) No pun intended!
