All kidding aside I actually liked the Probe. I never understood why they discontinued it. Last I checked the sport compact segment was a pretty big one and the Probe was pretty competitive in its day.

Well the 1999 Mercury Cougar was techincally the redesign of the Probe until someone thought it better that Mercury get something unique to sell in the coupe market since there was nothing for Mercury to sell after the 97 cougar went bye bye. The Cougar was indeed sold as a Ford Cougar in Europe. Production ended in Flat Rock to make way for the 2005 Mustang.

Wow, that makes sense. I knew that the last Gen cougar was the same type of car but didn't realize that it was the updated probe. I bet it would have sold better if it was a Ford. Personally I liked mercury, but they were sales kryptonite throughout the 90s and 2000s

I "almost" bought one. I went to the dealer in the morning, took it for a test drive, and really liked it. I told them I would take it and they parked in back. I left for the credit union, and on the way back to the dealer, I passed the salesman and another guy from the dealership driving the Probe like they stole it. I followed them for a while and watched them beat the crap out of it. I returned to the dealership and told them I didn't buy used cars. Needless to say the management was not happy. All in all it was a nice riding car, well built with good panel fit. But no substitute for the Mustang.

It's a nice looking car, but am I the only one who thinks it looks like a evolution of the mustang of the sn95? Like in an alternate reality where Ford never went retro, this is what the 05 would have looked like.

The 2015 Mustang will most likely be the design that didn't go straight to clay. This old EVOS sketch lays out the "spirit of the original". Long flowing lines, semi aggressive stance and appears moving at all times. More athlete than body builder.

What are you trying to say exactly? That sounds like a vague attempt to try and be relevant in this thread.

I think most of the 3rd party concepts are displaying the cues similar to what Ford intends. There are those that will be upset after they see the real deal, especially those that swore the Mustang would never use the EVOS styling. FoMoCo is taking the correct approach to this new styling change. The basic shape/style overall was well received abroad and that is a good sign of things to come.

I hope you guys can catch plenty of mule shots from here on out.

Are you suggesting there have been customer clinics showing the '15 in Europe? If that's the case, where was my invitation?

No no, I was referring to the EVOS in Frankfurt. The European automotive press went berserk over the styling and streamlined shape. It was a clever move, and a good way to desensitize the general public to the new design language and gain gradual acceptance through media repetition. You see something long enough and most people will hop on board over time.

I was in Frankfurt for that show and was instantly convinced that the concept had something to do with the next Mustang. Most people didn't want to hear that. That's ok, the finished product will win your heart.

Ah, gotcha.

Whilst I agree an early viewing of Ford's latest design language is a good thing in order to get the public used to a toned down version, Fusion was the first production model that Evos previewed, and my current concern would be that the public would then expect the next Mustang to be little more than a 2 door Fusion.

Personally, I don't think it will be, and I'm thinking it'll likely use more of the Evos' body surfacing that Fusion has, so I think it'll be a slick looking Mustang.

Of course, if Ford are concerned the design of the next-gen Mustang might scare away some of the Mustang faithfull, they could always show us a more production ready concept. That would give everyone a year or so to get used to the new look. Two downsides to this though........it may kills sales of the '14 and also takes away some of the surprise and delight in store for the 50th celebrations, so I think it's unlikey.

Either way, we're a little over a year away from seeing S550, but it's going to be a long year for me
