Oh, I think 450hp is quite achievable. The EcoBoost V6 in the Taurus SHO is already making 365 hp. Ford has said they could have tuned it for more but the Taurus transmission wouldn't hold up if the engine delivered more torque. And the SHO engine is 3.5 liters and lacks TIVCT. If Ford made an EcoBoost version of the 3.7, it would have to make 122 hp/liter to make 450hp. Ford's 2.0 EcoBoost engine makes 240 hp (120hp/liter) in the Escape and 252 hp (126 hp/liter) in the Focus ST. So a horsepower target of 450 is not out of line.
An Ecoboost V6 would cost more than the Coyote V8 and the Mustang GT has always been about affordable speed, so I'm sure the V8 will still be around. It would be nice though if Ford offered a high output Ecoboost V6 as an option, though. Some people would pay an extra thousand bucks or so for the better fuel economy. For racing, the Ecoboost V6 might be superior. After it's all dressed up with turbochargers and intercoolers, etc., the V6 might not be much lighter than the V8. But it would be shorter, meaning that the weight would be closer to the firewall making the car less nose-heavy. This better weight balance would pay dividends on the racetrack, I suspect.

An ecoboost V6 weighs a little more than the 5.0, pushing 450 hp it's gonna get worse gas mileage than the 5.0. To get another 100 hp out of the 3.5/3.7 is going to take prob twice the boost of the Taurus SHO engine. And it's going to cost way more than $1000. The current Eco boost 3.5 costs more than the 5.0. Now you will have to recertify it, the mustang will need a better fuel system. Even if they go DI, still limited on boost. To add another extra 100hp and warranty it for 36,000-100,000 miles they will have to further upgrade the internals. I just don't see Ford stepping on the toes of the GT in performance for a more costly V6. Just look at the SVO....it failed for the same reasons.

I don't expect Ford to build what I've talked about, I merely suggest that it would be possible. Looking at your signature, you must have spent several thousand dollars to make your car special. How do we know that quite a few people wouldn't ante up an extra $1500-2000 for an engine that makes a little more power, gets slightly better fuel economy, and gives them somewhat better weight balance? As far as the stepping on of the toes, hasn't Ford done just that with more costly models like Bullitt and Boss 302? I'm afraid I'm quite off the topic of this thread so it's probably time to quit.

Oh I'd love to see them build it...I just don't think that they would for those reasons. And don't know how many buyers would pay the extra for a mustang with the EB V6. I love the F100 pickup Ford did with the 400HP 3.5L. And it wouldn't have better weight balance. Now the EB 2.3 might be one to have the weight advantage.
And I've spent way too much in my cars

From what I know, both the car and truck variants of the 3.5L Ecoboost utilize a forged crank and forged connecting rods. All 3.5L Ecoboost pistons are cast aluminum, though they feature steel inserts in the upper ring lands instead of the traditional hard coating you'd find on a 5.0L Coyote piston, for example. The truck 3.5L EB does feature a beefed-up block and stronger main bearings when compared to the car version of the same engine.

I wasn't talking about an eco-boost v6, I was talking about the turbo 4 that has pretty much been confirmed for the next mustang. Both more powerful and better on fuel economy than the current V6, much lighter, and with the same sound symposer thing used in the ST focus it would sound a lot better than a V6 too. It would be interesting if the base model was the same V6 used in the current mustang, the mid would be ST badged with the turbo four since it is going to be a global car, and of course the Gt at top.

Personally I feel that the current V6 should get direct injection and VVT, more power and mpgs!

I don't think we'll be seeing this 2.3 ecoboost for some time because according to a Ford pdf i read elsewhere this engine is still in development. In fact the file stated that they won't start the final testing phase of said engine until CY2015, so we won't most likely be seeing it until MY'17....MY'16 at the earliest. Apparently this next gen ecoboost architecture is cutting edge stuff!

Well, the 2.0L ecoboost found in the Focus ST makes 300 hp in the Radical sr3 Sl. Plus, the next generation Focus RS (which sadly will never come to the US :[) would be rather underwhelming with that engine, so it is likely it will use a 2.3L ecoboost making about 350 hp. This engine is currently being developed in America. It would make sense for them to include it in both a mustang "ST" and the Focus RS.

Something to consider with Ford's aspirations for the Mustang to go global is that many countries penalize the owner with exorbitant taxes on engines over 2.0 liters in displacement. I would think that would rule the 2.3 out in most cases. Just something to think about.

My son was at the Ford design center today. He had a tour of the place. They showed him a room with a few finished 2015 Mustangs.....all neatly covered up. They did lift a corner so he saw a taillight. Three vertical lamps with some depth to them is all he could describe.
