You have my vote on this one. Sleek lines. Very nice.

I am 58 and the only nostalgia thing they need to remember is FUN. Making the cars look old is already old.

That's a good point, but in a era where cars look like the were squeezed out of tube- I'm very happy with the classic vehicle lines. Some may call the idea old, but the older cars looked so much nicer.

Yep, that's one reason why the classics are so loved, for their looks. Combine great (classic inspired looks) with modern underpinnings and you have a winner. Which is why the '05 was a knock out winner

I have this theory I call Grandma's Apple Pie Theory. I usually apply it to music and particularly tone but I think it applies here as well. I don't think the old cars looked better any more than your Grandma made the best apple pie but you remember the love that Grandma baked into that pie and remember the excitement of your first glimpse, sound and smell of a muscle car and that is what is telling you how great they looked. Sorry old Mustangs are crap cars. I drove them when they were new you couldn't make me drive one of those again. They don't look particularly good either.

That's a bit harsh. The original generation was not the most technologically advanced, but in it's time it was satisfactory. In the 60s the Mustang was just as reliable as any other car out there. I've had many cars of that era and none proved more reliable than the other; you can't really compare them to today's standards. Plus, they were affordable to own and to work on.

BTW, I have to respectfully disagree with that last part. The original Mustang body style looks great- even today. It's one of a few cars that has truly lasted the test of time. The looked great back then and still look great today.

Well, classic Mustangs look just the same now as they did in the 60's and 70's............and they STILL look fantastic.

I've never driven one, so can't comment on how they handle, but that wasn't my point.

Not to get off on too much of a tangent....
My unscientific theory:
Body styles/lines with sharp lines show their age fast. (IE, 1980's Camaros, 1G Cadillac CTS, most cars from 80's & 90's, and soon to be the latest Camaro) Coincidence that a LOT of GM styles fit this criteria?

Body styles/lines with smooth lines age very well. (All old Ferrari's, Jaguar X-types, 911 style Porsche, etc.) These cars still look amazing 30-40+ years after they were built.

I don't understand some of the modern designer's idea of good looks. Honda/Acura has pretty much blown whatever goodwill they created with their reliability. Their new designs can be really hard to swallow, especially the Acura buck-tooth grill.
Hyundai seems to be going in the opposite direction. Their new body styles overall look pretty good.
I just hope that Ford keeps this in mind when they create their new design.

This car has some really smooth lines, and aged about as well as a grape:

You know whats funny about this design. If you look at the headlights they look like they came off of the MACH 3 showcar of the early '90s which was the base for the SN-95s.

The Mach III showcar was designed after the production 1994 Mustang design was finalized.
