Ninjak, sounds like anyone who installs one of these may need to hire you to clean up the operating systems so it works to its best potential. Half of what you are talking about in this thread is all gobbledy gook to me!

Ok. I have some apps loaded, but still the system tries to load the apps that came with it. I am starting to wonder if I should root this thing to get it the way I want it. I can use the apps, but I cannot seem to default them. Hmmm

Another annoyance is this radio app. Not sure where its at in the system, it seems to be a custom made APK. It works well, but I want RDS ect...yes I am being greedy and I should be able to make it work. I been searching the App store, and the "special app store" but I cannot find what I am looking for.

I have the steering controls going, no sync buttons or ok, but other buttons work....something weird happen though...I am not sure, but I think the canibus box tried to set a voltage, and turned off something on my Shelby !!!!! Hmmm going to check with the engie marty and just leave that alone for now. All is fine now, but that sort of got my attention. I may need to hook a ground or something...I'll see about that tomorrow.

 

Actually it has a full version of Fancy widgets. I use it on my phone. Heh with the special app I can get the Beautiful Widget one to.

 

Just root the sucker, install titanium, and go at it.

OK last update for tonight. getting there, I have a few questions for Andy..(Engie) For now I am trying to get my Android to see my Nano playlist ! Good news here though is that the device can handle a 1Tb external HD....so I am basically going to load my music there, and leave it in the car.

Also need to ask about steering controls and that black box. I think I need to ground it for a sync system, and I have not. I'll find out tomorrow

That might be it. Going to see if I can pry some info out of them. I also have a working thread on XDA-Developers.

In truth the rom there works, you just have to figure it out and set things up in a way you like. It seems that the "RADIO" app is the default app that starts. It seems to be part of the main rom and the boot sequence. From there if you have a Ipod or phone connected, it will go to their music player, then it will hit the desktop. The "RADIO" app will play the radio even when you are in startup/boot sequence. So I think this has a lot to do with how this rom runs.

Its not bad really, I just want to default to a different music app instead of the one they use. Of course you can just open your's but I want it to be the default. I cannot seem to find a default switch in the settings though. I am still trying to figure the steering as well, and this canbus box. I'm getting there though. Now its just about customization.

 

Question...
After shutting off the car to run into the store and coming back out and starting the car again...Does it go back to the last media played when the car shut off!?

In other words if I am listening to a song on my usb/CD drive and shut the car off will that same song be playing when I start the car back up!? Or does it go to the radio everytime!?

 

Actually I need to test that. I have a USB with music. The radio will not play if it was not the last piece on, but I was trying to get it to default to my ipod nano. My biggest thing was defaulting to a playlist on it. I will try your suggestion tonight. As I said earlier, I am also in the mind of putting a passport hardrive in, and using it. Then I could use my nano in my truck.

 

this is one of my biggest concerns... can you explain a little more on this?

 

@ninjak....from your review it seems if you are not so tech savy and up to date with tech this radio can be challenging?

I also called OttoNavi and when asking them if I could possibly update the system...they shot me down and said "Yes BUTTT rooting/jailbreaking/hacking radio will void your one year warranty. So I was wondering if anyone knows what could possibly go wrong trying to update the software os

 

Not so tech savy here. What can go wrong when rooting the system? I was told by OttoNavi attempting to update or altering any software on the radio voids your one year warranty

Maybe theres a way to update it system withouth them knowing?

 

well first off the drivers for the touchscreen are proprietary.

Compiling something to cobble together and work with ICS or JB wouldn't be easy. There is no readily available source for what was changed in this Fork of GB.

Hell GB wasn't even made for a tablet size or mode anyway...

You'd need working drivers for the camera, the display, the bluetooth, the audio, and every other input/external connection. it's not as easy as you think it is.
