Update: :Trying the steering wheel controls, and it says not set.....so I need to figure that out.

@Rando:Its not a DVD will not play, its a Disk will not load issue. It just get spit out. But it does give me a Idea, I will check some settings.

On the drive to work today, everything was working well. The Nav was working flawlessly. 3d maps, all the POI loaded, highway signs ect. This was using Igo. I still need to turn on my hotspot, or hack it, on my phone to try google maps. It did take a good sec or two for the GPS signal, though that might be on me as I did not expose the antenna but rather have it inside the dash near the top. Once it sync, it was good to go.

As for the heated seats, well I do not have them. There are two more buttons that could be used for that, I think it will be a software update.

I will call the company this morning at around 10 or so eastern. They should be in their office by then, and I will address the concerns I have.

Stay tune.

The Pyle in dash Nav system in my truck uses the Igo software and I really like everything about it except the text-to-speech, it can't pronounce street names worth a d*mn. Does just fine with number streets it also tries to pronounce abbreviations as if they were words.

I saw something on another system that said you had to have an adapter to make the steering wheel controls work, maybe that is the issue with this one too?

great install man, it was a pleasure to read your write up. I was wondering how good the sound quality is on this unit. Did you notice better sound in comparison to the factory unit after installing or was it the same? Do you think the signal it provides is comparable to a higher end pioneer, alpine or kenwood double din receiver?

good luck on the dvd issue, hopefully its an easy fix. on a side note, i wonder if it will play dvd's while driving or if you have to hack the wiring for that to happen. either way, its impressive at how good this unit looks.

Actually I was told it will. no hack involved, it will just play. Sound quality is slightly better than stock. I think it will improve if I download a good DSP EQ for the system.

@LtngDvR Perhaps. There is a black box labeled steering controls. I will call and ask about that as well.

DVD will play while driving on my Pyle radio, all I had to do was ground a wire for it to work all the time.

The black box labeled steering controls is a can bus plug in. All you should have to do is plug that into the back of your new H/U into some factory harness adapter.

The issue there is that you'll likely have to root it for a good E/Q solution. Most are that way.

Now if It ran 4.0 we'd had S-Tweaks, Pie, clean AOSP, and XPosed TweakBox.. would be nice... if rooted, overclock, adjust DPI, color output, really control the audio EQ, etc.

Google Music, Pandora, Spotify and Google Nav.. would be so sweet.

I just realized something else that is missing... Sirius XM.... They need to address that too.

Ninjak, I looked into it. Since it's plain old Gingerbread, you can root it with Z4Root. Easy enough.

At least that way, you can push some APKs that you normally wouldn't be able to.

I used to have an Android Tablet in my 2010 Mustang.

What I did was use BlueTooth and connect the Tablet to SYNC. You would need to somehow power up the unit and do the BlueTooth sync prior to the install sync since you will need the old radio buttons and display to do it. Heck .. you could install it temporarily in another car and do the sync if possible.

Once you have the Tablet and SYNC connected ... your Steering controls will be able to control most of the tablet Audio and Video apps. I highly recommed PowerAmp as your MP3 player. It has a great built in Equalizer.

Yes I see that as well. Tonight I am going to try to push some APK's to it. I have Player Pro, along with the DSP install, great music app and EQ. I have my google acct already setup on it, so that was a big plus. The play store was already on this unit as well. It seems you can already push down quite a few apps, I have Pandora now.

It also started doing auto updates to some of the already installed apps, so thats a good thing as well. When I get home this eve, I will try a few things, since I will be on my home WI-FI. Going to see what this puppy can really do.

In the meantime, OttiNav is looking into why my steering controls are not working as well as the CD. They think it may be a bad unit, they may want me to send mines back for another.

Is the Android tablet the replacement for your car ? Or is your sync unit and radio all still in place, and just the tablet is modded to where your controls were ? This replaces the head unit, and the face plate for the Shaker 500. I see the sync module, but I am not sure where its connected. The unit shows up as BT Arm on my phone, I have not tried to see what the Radio itself see's in the car. Hell maybe it will see the sync unit still........I'll try that when I get home.

The ACM was still in car when I had the Tablet installed. I guess if the ACM is powering the SYNC Bluetooth module you may be out of luck. However .. don't most of the harnesses plug back into the Otto Unit?? So Maybe the SYNC module BT will still work. No idea .. but might be worth a try. If OTTO is saying the Steering controls should work then it might be a waste using BT for controls.

UPDATE:OttoNAvi Tech !

DM, that looks dam good !

Ok. So I had a great phone call from one of the OttoNavi Engineers. We spoke at length for about 40 mins or more, talking about the system. they were explaining the different options, the INSTRUCTIONS, things that need to be changed, and he was very interested on my thoughts of the unit. Also he sent me some INSTRUCTIONS that were not in my box. They are working on updating everything and these instructions, after going over them, would have GREATLY helped with setting up and doing some things.

Well first things first.

1:CD/DVD It appears that I need to remove TWO screws in the top of the main unit. They were put in there for shipping purposes. Easy enough. It did seem that the CD was hitting something causing it to back out. It makes sense, I will do this when I get home this eve.

2. STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS: Well there is a icon that will help assist in setting up the controls. It is in the app section and it seems I need to turn on the black box that came with my Radio to affect the controls. Hmm I may try this before I go home. Seem easy enough.

SCREEN: I am actually getting the hang of swiping the screen. There is also a fine calibration program again in the radio settings. I will adjust and see what happens.

Still not sure on the AC lights. They will call me back, but I found there are settings for that to. I'll take a look.

Overall I would say tech support has been pretty good. The engie was patience, asked questions, and listen to my gripes. He even read the review here on TSM. It seems they are all in on this unit. He also told me that many of the apps will just work. The system was not setup to lock out people as they wanted people to customize it. Well no worries there....I will be customizing the bloody hell out of it.

Stay tune, time to put these fixes in and take it through its paces.
Vids and more pics coming soon.

Since you haven't mentioned any issues with the air conditioning... I'm assuming that your a/c is still working accordingly? In the youtube video of this unit, someone commented that their a/c wasn't working after they installed the unit.

yes. No issues with the AC. The only issue I have is that a little blue led light does not come on when I hit the button. The Screen will say what the AC is doing. Actually looks pretty cool.

Ninjak, thank you so much for your diligent updates and being a guinea pig for all of us here. I am very interested in purchasing one of these (and like I mentioned before still holding out until someone confirms that it retains the heated seats).

I have no ideal why there is so much glare in their vid. I have none. I can see the screen just fine. I even parked with the sun on the screen and I could still see it.

Update ! The Bloat begone !

Allright. After talking to the engie, I came home armed with new knowledge.
I removed my faceplate H/U and removed the screws from the top of the base unit as instructed. Screws were hand tight, came out easily. I also realized I did not use the yellow clips that were on my OEM plate, so I took the time to put them on as well.

With those in place, the unit face plate fits even better ! With the screws out, the DVD/CD loads ! Well...hmmm The Cd player app sucks, but works. The DVD app is somewhat better. Both do the job and plays well. Now what I did notice is that it takes a little to load the CD player app, and the DvD app. So a market fix, and that takes care of that.

The Steering controls is controlled by a app. I am still trying to get the hang of it, but I have set volume, fast forward/back and skip forward/back. Trying to get the phone answer button to work...you can also do long press short press....I have not gotten that down yet..something to do with voltages ? I need to read up more on it.

Speaking of apps and bloat, I started removing the suck-a** bloody apps that were on the unit. So I connected to my home Wi-Fi and LET THE DE-BLOATING BEGIN !!!! First clean sweep. Install, then started getting rid of stuff. Facebook, Tv App, the Quran ??? Wow that made a difference ! Though as I went through some of the programs there are some very nice ones I have not seen. There is a FULL traffic guide app....there is a nice Car app dock, that you can mimick OEM Nav sets...but the most interesting was a nice little app that I will not go into detail about here....Lets just say I utilize it quite a bit, and was surprised by what it could do.

Now with that done I am starting to get this thing customized. Just finished the dinner, so its back out to Roxxy as soon as I research a few apps I want to try. Oh I finally figured the screen out. Yeah the system came with a nice stylus. Well guess what...the stylus works FLAWLESSLY with swiping up and down and what not...Oh its on now.

So far I have installed:
1. Clean Sweep
2. Player Pro and DSP EQ
3. Sirius XM Internet player
4. Chrome

I am now going to look for a great phone/car app, better radio app, better dvd app. I will look at customizing the desktop more as well. I will also look at removing a few things I cannot seem to find, or set something else as a default.

Stay tuned...getting there.
