Hood Rusting On My 05 !
#202
Well Ford fans,I just had a brand new hood put on my 05 GT.Mine suffered the corrosion issue like all of you.Ford is screwing all of us! they know they have a huge problem,uh-uh, you have a large problem. They are playing the "TOO BAD" lame excuse when they know they royally fudged up.Don't waste your time with a "Ford Rep" ,what a joke these people are.I finally convinced my dealer to pay half for a hood and repaint with a warranty. They had tried to fix it earlier with patch work, which is a waste of time.We paid good money for these car's only to have the builder take a poor stance on this issue. No wonder Ford got a bad name,Fix Or Repair Daily tag!!

I am overseas with a ENCS purchased 2005 Mustang GT Convt, built in Mar-Apr 05, took delivery Jun 14, 2005. My car has 29,000 miles and doesn't see snow and rarely a rain. I too have the bubbling along the seam and it has made to the passenger edge in one place in fron tof the hood lip. The problem was discovered 31 May 2010 by a new car Autohaus body shop that was doing a polishing for me. Due to my work travels I wasn't able to get my GT to the local servicing Ford Dealer until 19 Jun...and Ford Germany said its out of warranty (5yr)...so IMHO listen to the crickets was Ford Germany opinion. I see today after looking that there is a TSB on the exact problem I have. This problem really ticks me off along with a still slow to fill gas tank and a "500" radio that the cd tray cycles when the car is off (its initializing on the readout) running my battery down when I don't drive the car in a week or two...any updates to the hood issue??

No. Buyer beware is all there is for us. And a repaint at our cost.
I'm rather surprised about the corrosion, Legend, as technically, the thing will never 'rust' through, which is what the corrosion protection is about. Did yours actualy perforate?! If so, we all would like to hear very much more. Details, please!

Well, got a call yesterday from ENCS and Ford, they ae going to fix the corrosion problem with a new hood and repaint. I have to pay for the set of black stripes I had put on the hood but I'm happy with this. The total cost for hood, replacement, parts and paint is going to be o/a $2800 for Ford. New hood stripes for me about $100-150. ENCS and Ford thank you for taking care of customers and fixing a known problem.

Awesome deal for ya!
Kinda messes up the 'buyer beware' thing I posted above.
More details please. Like how you convinced them. We would *all* like to know the procedures to get a successful fix.
Much thanks in advance!

Well, initial answer to start off was no fix, car out of warranty. I was advised by the local Ford Germany Autohaus service manager to not take no and do emails. All together, it involved emails to the rep between my ENCS salesman and Ford-Germany who contacted Ford-USA direct. Emails included a prev Autohaus (dealership) repair estimate who found the problem, pictures of the hood, TSB, and the repair estimate done by the local servicing Ford Germany Autohaus (who will do the work). I told them that my car was at 29-30K and the hood shouldn't be doing that, corroding that is. They recv info from the local Ford Germany Autohaus that my car was well taken of. I guess they saw it as a way to help with any future sales possibilities. I am surprised at the cost of the new hood at $1000-1200, final price at around $1900 counting taxes, ship and import tax. Whole process to get aproval took about a week to get approval to fix, prob 3-4 weeks for hood to come in and 3-4 days to fix.

My hood started with one spot by the front lip. Went to the dealer and they got the OK to fix but I never did.
Today, I noticed that the SIDES are bubbling now all the way to the hood hinges. WTF!!!

Maybe now is a better time before warrenty is done, I'd say you wanted to wait to see if it spread, and ask when they fix it will they do the whole hood as obviously it was all contaminated !

Hi guys.... i have to unfortunately add mine to this thread. I have an '07 - is there a TSB for this? Well, sadly the car is now out of warranty and I did not notice it earlier. There are maybe a half dozen bubble spots along the underside of the hood near the seam at the outer edge and the front edge. The bubble means there is rust underneath? The paint (redfire) is not broken though. and there is no bubbling on the outside of the hood.
Should I bother taking this to the dealer and expecting them to fix it? I was reading some of the replies and it seems like Ford's response it all over the place from bad to good.
