I just sent this:

I have seen a few S197 Mustangs (2005+) with rust under the hood where the front edge curls under and is tack welded. Is there any coverage under any Ford Warranty to resolve the issue?

I did notice that NO RUST is covered under the ESP (extended service plan) warranty.

I thought the hood was aluminum? Thats not saying Aluminum cant corrode worse than steel if exposed to salt though...

The rust warranty is perforation but if you're still under the bumper to bumper that should be covered. That is pretty scary though. A car should have like 10 years on it before any rust. Longer on modern vehicles.

Well I have something going on. On the front lip of my hood. Like I said I will post pics tomorrow. The lip underneath is corroding as well. And I am fanatical about washing and cleaning my car.

Ooohh...Not good. It can't be rust, because the hood is aluminum. You can't see it but FYI Aluminum oxide is white in color. You can probably get that covered under paint defects. Hopefully thats all it is.

Thats the exact spot where mine was bubbling up too. Mine wasn't that bad though. It was fixed by my dealer no charge when my car was in for repairs last month due to a Hit and Run. Mine is a Redfire too built in Nov 2004. Wonder if it was a bad prep job at the factory?

Well I m going in On Thursday. Its crazy the way the warranty is. If there is a hole in the metal, then its covered for 5 years/Unlimited Miles. But if its just bubbles, then its only 3 years/36,000 !!

Yikes! After I opened your photos, I went outside and triple checked mine as I'm redfire too, and about 377 miles from warranty expiration!!! I got 4/48K...due to some dealer integrity issues about 3 years ago....Long story.

Dude - I hope your dealership takes care of that. Totally unacceptable on any car built in the last 15 years.

Good luck.

You know you would figure that no matter what, Ford should fix this or pay for it to be fixed. In the TSB they admit that it is their fault that this is happening.

Well just as I thought. The dealer told me I was SOL....And YES those were the exact words !!! Figure this out...my 3 year warranty was up in Nov. so their not gonna cover it. But if it gets bad enough that the corrosion causes a hole in the metal before 5 years then they will fix it !!! WTF !!! So basically, if I leave it for another 6 months and wait for holes they will pay way more to fix than if they fix it now !! Never mind the fact that obviously this issue was there FAR before the warranty on the paint was up, it was just not noticed !!!
I'm going to call Ford tomorrow but I think this is a losing battle...It's really BS that in this day and age a car starts to corrode after just 3 years. And sadder is the fact that car company that lauds Quality first will not fix it. Even though they admit to it being their fault. And they wonder why their losing millions of dollars a year !!

BEWARE all...Go check you hoods...open it up and look along the lip edges...If it's starting to look a little rough...or bumpy...get it in !!
I'm lucky in that I'm a car painter and can fix this myself. But for someone to have to pay this repair WILL be VERY costly !!

Opened the hood. Thought things looked good. Went to close it, when something caught my eye. Small blister-like,hard bubble things. They are inside hood at the lip, where it's "folded" over(or in). 05,20000 miles,32 months. The problem is to the left of center.Black paint. My day was going just fine, now I feel sick.

Thanks for posting, wouldn't have noticed 'til it was too late. Do you know where other aluminum panels are on the car? My husband said I should check the entire car before warranty is up in June. His thinking is-sure,get this spot fixed, then 6 months later it'll pop up elsewhere. Thanks again for the post, and thanks for any replies on the aluminum panels.

Im not sure which panels are aluminum...That's a good question....I will find out or hopefully someone on this board will know and reply.

I did just get off the phone with Ford customer service and they are going to "Look into the matter" and get back to me next week. I will keep you posted on what they decide to do.
