I'm having fun wet sanding down that final coat with 600 grit. So I get to spend my senior skip day sanding so it can go in paint Saturday. With any luck it may actually show up at the meeting this upcoming Tuesday.

600 grit? What kind of adhesion are you going to get with that. I would think 320 or 400 would be as high as you want to go.

Beats me, I'm just doing what I'm told. He knows what he is doing, so I just go with it.

Is he going to stand behind the work when you get a chip and your paint starts releasing? Don't know what you are painting it with but most paint manufacturers recommend 320-400 then a non sanding sealer. If it is too slick there is no bite. It may make for a nice looking finish at first but it won't hold up in the long run.

He will be using PPG Shopline base with HOK UC-35 Kosmic Klear clear. He worked at Quevas Customs, also well known on another forum for all of his work. He did say he was going to use a scuff pad before putting on the base though.

I was told because he did jobs on the side queva's couldn't. But I don't care about that stuff. I've seen/heard no complaints about him so my decision will not change.

600 is fine. Anything coarser can show scratches through the base.

I'm painting the Miata this weekend. If you get anymore runaround, and want it painted, give me a call while my booth is cleaned out.

Should be heading out in about an hour. I still have some sanding to do and I need to RainX my windshield.

I wouldn't paint today. I'd let the car sit inside and get completely dry. A water drop in the wrong place will screw up the paint big time. I'm wetsanding today, letting it dry tomorrow, and painting Monday (if it's totally dry).

I wouldn't get rainx near that car before you paint. No need in creating fish eye's unless you really want them.
