Don't get why I keep putting money into this car. It seems everything I do I can never finish without some kind of problem.

thats where the phrase do it right the first time comes to play,

i was wondering why you were putting on a mix of custom parts on your brakes ,

the factory front disc brakes are easy to get and pretty good, 4 piston calipers ect.

what problem are you hitting now?

Well those are the recommended parts for the kit. The adapters, rotors, and calipers fit great. I'm working on the hoses right now. The hardline fitting and the hose fitting are different sizes. So I'm having to reflare and refit my lines. Well I have the correct fittings, but they aren't sealing with the line and it is shooting brake fluid out of it. I've redone this about 5 times and still can't get it correct. This is just on the passenger side, I haven't gotten to the drivers side yet, I also haven't replaced the master cylinder with the maverick one. I know I will have to redo those lines as well since the front brakes are on the rear reservoir on the current MC and they have to be on the front of the new one.


On top of having this problem since yesterday, my backup car has a check engine light on so I'm not driving it.

Also think my drivers door latch is broken. You can't just shut it anymore, it just bounces right back at you. Almost have to slam it to get it to stay shut.

are you using a double flaring tool, are you sure the fittings you have are for brakes/ double flaired ends

definatly ask for help if you are struggling on brakes it is not worth doing them and not being right.

Yeah I am using a double flaring tool that we have here at the house. I'm also using extra brake fittings my dad has since he ran the ones on his old truck. I have done both double flaring and single flaring, and neither seem to work at all with the fittings.

it took me a while when i was learning to flare them to realize you almost have to do them in a vise, if you distort the flare at all it will be out of round and not seal.

Well I think I'm just going to have to order new lines. Its aggravating me like crazy, so I'm just going to let it sit for awhile.

Got the brakes fixed, but now the master cylinder is causing a problem.

Still not driveable, either still a leak or lots of air in the line, the system wont hold pressure. Once I get this and the door finished/fixed I'm selling it.

I really want an 06+ GTI, but my dad has found a 350z.

Did you order new lines? I have never been able to double flare stainless steel with one of those hand tools. It really takes a pneumatic flaring tool to do it.

No, my dad brought home a good flaring tool from his work. The hand ones were actually easier for me than the one that used a ratchet to tighten it.

Yay get to replace wheel bearing(s)!

Drivers side is SHOT and idk how far away passenger side is. These bearings are about a month and a half old and maybe 100-150 miles on them. But it was my fault I guess

Good news is if I can sell it once I fix this, VW has a GTI and for a good price.


Also thanks KennyG, just placed an order for that replacement spring.

I'm not going to work on the GTI or SI much. Most I'd probably do is rims.

Driving a vintage car everyday will require maintenance. Consider keeping the car and getting a $3000 Honda or Toyota for everyday use. You'll regret selling the Mustang someday. I can't count how many people say "I use to have one. Should have never sold it"

I used to have a restored 67 coupe and drove a $300 (Three hundred dollar) Subaru everyday. When I felt like it, i drove the Mustang but didn't have to count on it everyday.
