Official Bullitt Release & Pix!
D-Plan since i work at a Ford Dealership. Next step now is to figure out what louvers and hood to put on there down the road.
The sales manager tried to keep pushing me to get sirius radio since i ordered almost every other option, i nearly had to deck him telling him that "No! I don't want sirius radio!" The large black antenna on the trunk does not appeal to me.

I could understand why Shelby Autos could be charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

Other than the regulars, there seems to be a lot of people commenting that the car should have this or that. And it's obvious that they don't know the movie car well enough or were lead to believe it would be something else. Watch the movie, then look at the car. Other than the one only driver's mirror, blacked-out rear panel, straight piped exhaust, wood grain dashboard and twin marker hood ( too bad they couldn't do it!), the car is pretty correct.
yes Steve McQueens bullit WAS and extremely stock looking mustang but with all the hype and the new shelbys and KR and everything else to hit the mustang scene youd think they would have done SOMETHING special with this one. i mean come on, 10 xtra HP? wtf is that. if i got mine painted green, lost the spolier, and got 18" black bullits id have the exact same car. for me its a big disappointment.
gotta hand it to ford though for just taking a stock S197 and calling it a bullit with a few extra bells and whistles. wont be trading up my black beauty for this one

obvious things but many people in this forum still want it
If you are a person that wants a unique car at a reasonable price, then I think this car is a good purchase.
Its priced well at $31,075 and the limited production of 7,700 makes it appealing.
I know this isn't the 400hp Mach1 or Boss a lot of us have been dreaming of, but considering the Mustang GT Premium and GT/CS are around the same price, this is a pretty good deal. I know there isn't going to be a lot of people on your block with a car like this!

V6 Pony emblems have pins
dkegel,
The V6 doesn't have holes, those emblems are just stuck on, I believe. But the Shelby (ordered with the GT Upfitters package) doesn't have holes in the fenders, and the GT/CS also doesn't have holes in the fenders. These aren't new parts for '08, they've already been made for a while.

I swapped the emblems on mine and moved the GT emblem to the rocker panels ala 68. My car has been accused of being a v6 because of this.
The Bullitt may be the ultimate sleeper.
Hey Dave, same boat here dude. I told people it was $1,895 for the package, as it said this for the past several months on the CONCEPTS order site here at work. Either way, its a good price.
And about it being a disappointment. Some of you have to come to the realization that major auto compaines can't just put in 390hp engines and get away with it. I'll cry CAFE all day long, and some will say heck with that. Yeah, and heck with the Millions of $$$$ in fines that the manufacturer has to fork out if they go over their CAFE by .10 of a %. BMW had to pay over $12 Million a few years ago.
For the price it isn't bad at all. Its just like the '01 Bullitt, subtle changes. The Bullitt was never about being a 400hp N/A car. I'll never sway those who seem to have a general hatred for this car, but even the guys over at IMBOC are impressed. Hey Tony, can you add anything from the trip to AAI?

the point made re cafe and recertification for another engine is spot on...i made the samepoint in another post. it's a MAJOR big deal for a auto maker to stuff another engine into an existing platform. it must go through the entire process...imagine howmuch more that cost would boost the msrp of a car.
it sounds to me like the bullitt addresses the problems in the 05/06 gts; with the poor throttle response from the drive by wire setup and the lack of a "intelligent" fuel management system to "read"the grade of fuel being used...this system hasbeen around for a while and was something that needed to be added to the gt and hopefully it will.
it also sounds like alot of attention was paid to the suspension with the use of different struts andsprings...again, the use of different suspension components costs more....plus the additional production costs of a "different" model over the gt...all these things add up to a higher msrp.
as far the plain jane looks go, that's totally subjective....i personally like it, that's the way i would equip my mustang...i wonder what options, if any, will be available...such as the hd headlights.
all in all, a very nice package...i love the machine turned dash insert...right out of a 64 impala supersport.

As has been said by others, if you want bling, buy a different Mustang.
The beauty of the Mustang has always been that it is easily customisable for each owner
How do you think they created the 2001? Other than the colour, seat pleating and wheels how well does it pay tribute the the movie car?
