I actually get my Mustang customer to join me at local car shows and such. They always tell me, they have never dealt with a salesperson so interested in cars before.
Dealers are the best places to shop on planet earth. Discounting an already marginal 7% at best profit when any home store keeps a 60% margin, electronic shop 80%-100% and jewlery outlets 300-1500%. Nobody makes less profit then a car dealer with the highest possible opperating costs. Not to mention the blatent RAPE of something like a contractor or even worse, a 'consultant'-the most overpaid service on planet earth. How 'come Lowe's isn't evil for paying $1.20 and charging $3.69? Funny thing is, not one customer-if ever put in the owner's shoes-would ever take the deal they just got. They would have a coronary on the first weekend and mark up everything $20k first thing Monday morning. Everybody whines about costs buying a car while bending over for every other retailer daily. I think dealer's shot themselves in the foot the first time they ever discounted a car.

A customer coming in to buy a car at invoice basically comes in the door saying 'I want top notch service for this product you spend an incredible amount of money maintaining and you are not to keep a single penny-and hurry up please'....I think dealers should stick to full pricing and treating the idea of a discount the same way Wall Mart or a Coach purse outlet does. Any salesperson who can survive this business for 6 months or more and make a living is one strong individual. It's one of the hardest jobs you can get.

It would be interesting to know the ratio of those who inquired about the GT500s and those who were made happy.

To answer your question, we got 2 GT500 in for the 2007 model year. BOTH cars were ordered for 2 LONG standing customers of our dealership (over 25 years buying from us and servicing) AT MSRP. We got a 2008 in for stock (not ordered) and it went for $7,000 over MSRP. Compared to the local dealer who is still asking $20,000 over MSRP for their 2 cars($66,650), we sold ours within a day of it arriving. So 3 people were happy, who got their cars.
