I doubt that. At least not with me driving.

But I do agree with ya, it needs more under the hood. 3.73's and CAI tune is a start.............

I might could agree the engine has more HP than the 2001 but that's about it as far as performance goes. We should have check-box options for a 5.4, T56, automatic, etc. I could care less about the Japanese and Euro ways of building and selling cars.

I'm sure it's not a better performer than the 1968 390 GT. That would be hard for this car to do.

The 300 HP rating in most cars are not the RWHP rating anyway.

From the Ford Media site regarding the performance of the 1968 car and the 2008 -

10. Need for Speed – Then: The original 1968 Mustang GT 390 boasted a 0-60 time of 7.8 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 15.2 seconds at 94.0 mph, according to Motor Trend. Now: Ford engineers modified the 2008 Mustang Bullitt’s chassis and suspension to fine-tune handling and ensure the extra horsepower and torque from the 4.6-liter V-8 is put to good use. Motor Trend clocks the 2008 Ford Mustang Bullitt at 5 seconds even for 0-60, with a quarter-mile time of 13.7 seconds at 102.7 mph.

Give us the parts from the Ford Racing catalog and a team of 3 random guys on this board could have made a GT into this car (other than the asthetics) after church on a Sunday afternoon (one guy does the gear swap, one guy does the shocks, the other guy puts on the CAI and the shift ****).
you forgot the 4th. guy who is needed for BBQ!

The subtle stuff starts with revised programming of the engine control computer. First the redline has been bumped up 250 revs to 6,500 rpm. Second, a "dual knock" strategy in the fuel map and ignition programming allows the engine to run on either regular or premium fuel — with the V8 making the same peak power either way, but with a slightly more generous torque curve when burning the good stuff.

The Bullitt is nice, but it still needs:
Red Brake Calipers
Quarter Window Louvers
5.0 or 4.6 with 400HP
Double Vented Hood

I agree with you except I feel the 5.0 should've been the base engine for this particular SE, with the 4.6 and 5.4 being offered options.

I like it. The flex HP with different octane ratings is cool; they put some effort into that...

BTW some you guys are too harsh on what you think this car should have been. If you don't like it, get something else! maybe even the rumored Mach 1 and Boss SE to come.

Yes, most of us wish the car was "more" somehow, but in the end, it is what it is. I think Ford realizes the Bullitt can't be all things to all people, but at such a reasonable price, one could easily add the extras to get it right. Ford obviously had quite a balancing act to perform on this car that allows it to (firstly) be made available and (secondly) still be a daily driver. Most 2001 Bullitt owners modified their cars, and this one will be no different, perhaps more so.
The 1968 GT390 was a very nice car, but would be easily dusted by the new Bullitt. Better performance, handling, economy, and overall feel will make this quite a ride (but remember 40 years have passed) over the 1968 model. With a little tweaking, this car could almost compete with cars with much more HP, like the GT500. Although it doesn't have the huge torque band of the Shelby GT500, after a S/C is installed, you've got some serious competiton at a much lower price!

The car is a tribute to the '68 model, not the '01 therefore, no red brake calipers. I can accept the fact of no side vent-style windows (blind-spot potential), no problem. Dual vent hood is only major omission.

Car's not meant to be a track star from what I can tell, just a tweaked GT (ala the original), hence, no Brembos, Watt's linkage, or 5.4L.

As for size comparisons to '01 version, for me, I'm glad its bigger, as I don't fit in those old fox body cockpits (too cramped).

I like it (save the hood), its what I've wanted since the '01 came out and will hopefully be my first Mustang. I'm just worried if any will still be around in mid-year '08?

That's good stuff. I'd take that over going back and forth loading tunes.

I like this car but am frustrated with Ford. The Bullitt does not have enough juice for me to buy one. Put that in your pipe and smoke it Ford. The Bullitt is a money sucker for Ford until they can release the next generation Mustang. Thats the bottom line and I aint buying it.
What is this obsession with 'progress'? Do you expect every new model year to have more horsepower than the last, forever? If it did, we'd all be driving nitro-burning 1,000 horse dragsters to the grocery store! Ford can build much better cars than the Mustang (try out a 2006 Lincoln LS Sport on the twisties), but if you want more from a Mustang, you have to be willing to pay A LOT more. Want Shelby 500 Power? It costs more than most can afford to pay. If Ford slapped a blower onto the Bullitt to get to 400 hp, the price would have to increase by AT LEAST $10,000, to account for Ford's extra R&D, extra warrantee costs, etc. 99% of the Mustang target market are not looking to drop $42,000+ on a car; heck, more than half buy V6's! The people that want the power, and can afford that kind of green, are easily able to find someone to hook them up!

I agree with you 06RubyGT. Everybody wants it all and for cheap. If people want the top of the line, Ford already offers that with the GT500, and we're lucky that they even offer that. The new Bullitt will be a balanced car at a great price to boot. Ford even offers a S/C from their catalog (with a warranty!) if installed when new for less than you'd pay for a higher model. I long gave up the idea and dismay that Ford wouldn't offer us a higher HP engine (like the 5.4) in the new Bullitt. It makes more sense to me now when you consider how much they had to deal with to bring about this car.

High-er horsepower is coming.
But Ford is holding the hand close to the chest right now.

No NEED to go for the throat of a non-existant competition right now.

But regardless it seems that people will NEVER be satisfied with what is offered. They always feel they are getting screwed, or not getting enough or how Ford isn't listening.

We are just a drop in the bucket of mustang owners/buyers.
We are not getting screwed.
And more is coming.
Ford doesn't build the mustang for ONE person

You guys think those are unique front fenders? The reason I ask is because the regular GT and V6 fenders have holes in them for the emblems, no?

Hey Eric! How's it going?? I hope you are well and enjoying the Mach!! I've got 67,000 miles on mine. How many on yours??

Remember when Bullitts and Machs were noticably different in speeds and times in the 1/4 mile? They are much closer with this new car now.

If we get a new Boss or Mach, maybe that's where the power will lie and the universe can be like it was before
