I hope this story is accurate, because many of us have been beatching about this for months. If it's true, I guess the folks at Ford are paying attention to us!

What I'm wondering is if a "road racer" means that the Bullitt will be a stripper car with little or no amenities.

I sincerely hope that's NOT what it means.

 

Yeah, beat me to it as well... I was reading that article and I needed to take a break to clean out the front of my pants halfway through!!! It is EXACTLY what the Mustang badge needs to stay competetive with the Camaro.

Another thing: looking at this picture, it makes sense why the car in the 2009 spy photos featured a raised hood. Could it have been a mule for the 4.6L DOHC engine?

2008.5 Bullitt Mustang Preliminary Data:
• 4.6L DOHC, 400 horsepower naturally aspirated engine.
• Aluminum block with wet sump oiling system.
• Steel crankshaft.
• Ford GT type cylinder heads.
• Ford GT valve covers with special oil fill adapter on the right valve cover.
• Special exhaust manifolds.
• Special intake manifold with the plenum and throttle body located on the back of the intake, much like the original Bullitt.

Likely won't be cheap though. And you better stock up on extra Vaseline in anticipation of dealer enemas.

According to reliable sources here in Dearborn, there's more to the 2008 Bullitt Mustang's recipe than just a 400 horsepower engine though. Ford is said to be putting resources into the Bullitt for the specific purpose of creating a road-racing Mustang, which will be positioned between the Mustang GT and the Shelby GT500. When the Bullitt debuts, it is likely to feature numerous performance enhancements. For starters, the next-generation Bullitt will feature a standard brake upgrade package that is being developed with road racing in mind. Moreover, the Bullitt will also come with a handling package, which is being developed by Ford Racing.

So, it all sounds very promising indeed. This car could have the potential to spank the GT500 on the track...and hold its own against the forthcoming Camaro and BMW M3.

 

Sorry, but 4.6L NA and 400HP... I don't believe it.

 

Why not? The 2008 BMW M3 E92 uses a 4.0L NA engine and extracts 400 HP.

 

I suspect now that Ford likely WILL debut the Bullitt in New York this April.

The rumors state that it is a 4.6 but that could be false. There is no way to tell what the displacement is based on the picture alone. It could very well be a 5.0, we just dont know. Until ford unveils the Bullitt and this engine, everything is just speculation. Still... would love to see that under the hood.

 

sweet, they better put it in the bullitt, the bullitt really deserves more then a standard engine with FRPP pack.

If it goes through Shelby, there goes any hope for an under $35K price tag....

 

The way the article is written suggests that the base Bullitts will be shipped to Shelby for assembly as GT 350s. If that's the case then the Bullitt may fly under the radar and not be subject to the outragious ADMs that anything with a Shelby nameplate carries. It would make perfect sense for Shelby to make a GT350 if the upgraded suspension was already in place from Ford.
