Just using this as an example, but:

http://www.caranddriver.com/news/201...-bump-car-news

It's fairly obvious that the 5.0L was rather conservatively rated at 412HP.

The secret is out. The 8 hp was there the whole time. Unless someone can prove otherwise.

This is still a discussion? Wow. The "answers" were posted a while ago.

- not just the tune
- not a re-certification
- internal changes realized from the Boss 302/Road Runner motor development

Yes. This was said earlier in the thread by a moderator but he either doesn't actually know this or is enjoying kowing something that "we all" don't...

Ford isn't giving details because the truth is that there being conservative with the 412. Until someone can prove otherwise that's it.

It has something to do with reducing friction. Something they learned from the Boss program.

Why do you say that? There have been several stock 5.0's dyno tested, and 412 horsepower appears to be an accurate rating. Just because Ford lumps all of the improvements under the "lessons learned from the Roadrunner (Boss) program" umbrella, and doesn't list them individually, that doesn't mean there weren't modifications made to the engine's internals. I'm sure we'll all learn soon enough when certain shops around the country get their hands on the 2013 GT Mustangs.

I would bet you cash money that there are no actual changes between the 2012 and 2013 5.0L.

And I'm not a betting man.

I don't think it's secrecy so much as a lack of publication of the details just yet. Hopefully at the NAIAS they dive a little further into the '13 car and explain things better.

The 2013 has Amsoil in it and that's where the 8 hp comes from. Less friction.
