From what I have read/ heard is that GM's main objective in getting Chrysler is basically to keep the Jeep brand and either dissolve or sell off the remaining Dodge/Chrysler brands to Nissan/Renault whom have also expressed interest in Chrysler. Keep in mind Nissan's next pickups will be based heavy on the new Dodge Ram and Dakota.

Maybe they see something the others don't?

I for one, am glad they are staying out of it.

Not sure why that would be so dumb. The Hemi motors seem purty darned nice to me, are fully developed and would serve the purported purposes of the yet-to-be-seen Boss motor pretty well (truck applications primarily).
Not sure what the downside would be as Ford could save a lot of money by fully ditching the Boss motor program, which they've already pared down to the bone apparently anyway.

The hemi, although having been produced for several years, gets horrible gas mileage, even with MDS. (Cylinder de-activation.) The 6.1 Hemi only makes 425 horsepower, yet the 5.0 will supposedly get 400 hp.
Lets talk simple marketing...no true Ford guy would buy a Hemi powered truck. Dodge Hemi that is, as we all know the Boss 429 had hemispherical heads. The hemi motor is lower on torque as well, higher in the revs.

If GM some how manages to aquire Chrysler and does what it appears GM really wants to do (raze Chrysler for its cash reserves and possibly the mini-vans and jeep) I bet he along with GM will be even more reviled.

While the boss has taken a while to come up with and how its said to be just for Trucks.
Pray that its where it stays... you don't want that motor in the stang.
Wasn't it suppose to come out soon? We haven't heard ANYTHING about that motor lately....
Hrmmm....makes ya think
I'd rather take the lighter/smaller/LESS THIRTSY alternatives down the road.
haha

I think it's because Cerberus wants to trade Chrysler for GMAC, something Ford doesn't have. The most recent news it saying that it is more likely to form an alliance with Nissan/Renault and possibly Fiat to share some global platforms.

BTW, any interest in heading to Carlisle in 2009 for All-Fords with my club? We'll have a tent to hang out under?
