I wonder if there is a common denominator with all of these units that are scheduled for production on the same week. (interior color, package, options etc..?) I can't remember the code but there is one that ford uses to communicate with the dealers when there are parts on back order. The original launch of the s197 was held up when the "my color" dash option had low availability. the first car we had ordered had to be changed to omit that option if we wanted to get it in a timely manner.

 

I think its Mat'l hold. Mine's not showing that. It shows order processing, scheduled to Apr 11 ETA Apr 22 (subject to change of course). I think its another 5.0 engine shortage or engine component shortage myself.

 

This is not mine but could have been, the dealer is not real far and a member on the Montreal Mustang Club site gave me the info that the dealer had a 2012 GT/CS black, hids cloth... on his lot, so I went and got a look, it's all dirty but

Just got off the phone with CS. Mines been pushed back. Now it's April 14 build and May 5 delivery. Cant,t wait! for the next delay.

 

The way things are going with these ordered vehicles, I'd be inclined to jump all over that!

 

I just got the delay too moved from April 11 to April 18 build date and ETA is May 1st

 

I called too. From April 4th, to April 11th, now to the 14th build to day. Delivery shows april 27th in the computer, however c/s said there was a second program she checked which showed it could be delivered May 5th.

Went in and talked to dealer (owner) today, and told him i was about ready to back out of the Mustang purchase. He said that he checked the system this morning, and things appeared to be on the same delivery pace for me. I have a black ordered, and he said that paint was not a delay reason for mine because the paint they use for the black unavailable is for the f-150, fusions etc, not the mustangs. Certain red's can effect the mustangs. I am fairly confident at this point that i will be looking at a May delivery (dec 7, 2010 order). I think that as soon as the estimated delivery goes to May 6th, (which will be the next possible delay date) i am bowing out of the competition.

I understand from working from a factory that delays happen, but our customers get very upset when something is delayed and they are not communicated the new date promptly without them asking for it.

Customers that have to check for themselves are not usually repeat customers. I will vouch for the car, but the buying experience has not be pleasant. Volvo's is much better.

So all I am asking of Ford is to actually e-mail me when things change. Amazon can do it for over a billion items a day, why can a car company not do it for less than 80,000 units a year, each costing over $20k?

Really, it today's Information Age, this is not too much to ask for...

...much less the option to accept delivery from the factory!

Ford is getting better at many things, but this stinks. Not all of us live in the frozen north. Winter is great driving weather, and it would be nice to not have to wait so long for a car ordered in Nov, Dec, Jan, or Feb. Come on Ford, I know this is a complex process, but you really can improve on this.

I will be in the position to buy again by the redesign. If Ford wants my business, then it will need to continue to be the best bang for the buck. While the wait is only one thing to consider, it is important and one of the many things to consider. If Chevy does manage to do a great job with their redesign, then wait times like what I have waited will not mean good things for Ford.

 

Anyone heard from FCS - Deysha lately?

 

I got a full history from my dealer today. Shows some very strange stuff. First schedule to week happened on March 11 (build to week Apr 11). The original document I have shows build to week March 28. Once I got the VIN, Apr 4 build day with ETA Apr 10.

Next day (Mar 12) shows sched to day Apr 14, two days later sched to week Apr 11, next day again, Sched to day Apr 14.....the pattern repeats....all the while the ETA stays from Mar 11 to Mar 25 at Apr 22.

I think it will take 2 code breakers, two code talkers and a super computer to figure out when this car will actually be built and delivered.

I have not, however, hit the panic button yet since its still cold and snow on the ground, but I will say this, this has been the most convoluted order I have ever placed for a car. Every other product I have ordered in the past took a no muss no fuss 6 weeks max from order to delivery and that was for some limited run stuff like the Dakota R/T when they first came out back in 98 (they only made 3000).

It seems like the Mustang had been relegated to the red headed step child of the Ford family when it used to be iconic. The F150 is king now so parts get swiped to keep that model flowing.

My real fear here is that I don't think the Japanese parts shortage has hit yet. The longer this drags out the more likely stuff like Nav systems and other electronics will run short and you can guess what vehicle will get those pieces first.

Oh well, back to waiting!

I see where you are coming from, but remember any business will direct parts to the most profitable vehicles which are the F-150 -and- the Mustang (GT, especially).

I think we will be okay compared to... say... a Fiesta.

You are right about the parts shortage. But then again, no automobile manufacturer (except the Japanese themselves!) have been open to how much they have caused a disruption. Annoying, but it does make economic sense.

Absolutely! From a corporate perspective, the most profitable will always get priority, and is understandable, however, I have to disagree that the Mustang is a profitable product compared to the Fiesta. I don't have hard numbers but I think the production numbers are greater on the Fiesta and it's promoted harder. All kind of ads in the paper, commercials etc.

Lets face it, Mustang is a niche vehicle. For most its a toy that gets put away in the winter (at least where I'm from). The plant only runs 1 eight hour shift, 5 days a week, no overtime. I think the numbers are close to 70,000 units total per year. F150 and Fiesta I believe will have considerably higher numbers.

Never the less it doesn't make it less frustrating mainly due to the lack of fundamental information with regards to status and delays.
