I will say that, in terms of what is a foolish price to pay for a car, that threshold is different for everyone and also depends upon how much importance is placed on being able to get the exact car the customer wants. If you wait until this time next year to buy a '13 GT500, you're probably not going to be able to walk into a dealership and tell them everything you want on the car and tell them, "I want to place this order and oh by the way, I'm not paying a penny over invoice." Sure, you might find a car that is exactly what you're looking for in the leftover '13s but it also might be halfway across the country as well. So how foolish is it, then, if a person has the disposable income set aside for the car ahead of time and wants to tailor the car to his/her specifications and orders the car at MSRP? To that individual the knowledge that the car is going to be theirs in every way possible from the moment the frame is loaded on the production line is worth the extra expense and the peace of mind that comes with not having to "hope" they find the right car.

Besides, isn't spending anything at all on an unnecessary vehicle the definition of "foolish" by those standards? Just something to think about for those who say spending anything over invoice is "foolish."

Have a question about a different topic than where this thread is going. Is there anywhere I can see the new high impact blue metallic? The Kona blue is too dark for me, and looks like it will show a lot of dirt. Wondering how the former compares.

Yes.

edit:
Fine I'll be nice but only because it's your first post. Welcome to the forum. And please look around and search before asking, most of the time the answer has been answered a thousand times over.

No need to be sorry! Welcome aboard; we're here to help as we all share a passion for Mustangs! The new for '13 deep impact blue is a bit lighter/brighter than kona blue so it'll hide dirt a bit better.

Maybe the dealer had other motives for selling me the car at this price (like having a 2013 out there for others to see so that they will come in and buy a car?) Doesn't matter to me. If the dealer didn't want to sell me a car at this price then he shouldn't have made me this offer and asked me to please come back in to the dealership. It's the responsibility of the sales team to make sure they are doing what is best for their business, not mine.
Hi, Larry. I work at a Ford dealership and I think you brought up some great points. Nothing wrong with asking for - and getting - a great deal on a new car, especially when both parties are willing. As a dealership, we make decisions to sell below the invoice total regularly and when the need arises. We sell above the invoice total when supply/demand allow, too, so it's all good in the grand scheme of things. Keep us posted on your '13 - we can't wait to see pics when you take delivery!

Shame Ford doesnt allow different varieties of ordering. If I wasnt getting the Boss, I would love to option the Base with 4.2 display, cloth recaro's, track pack, pedestal spoiler, shaker pro and maybe glass roof with GHIG.

Im thinking about ordering a 2013 this week maybe,

i was hoping someone can help me with some options please?

i want a GT 6 speed 3.55 gears with recaros and track package

GT 6spd (P8C) - $27,952
Recaro (U) - $1,424
Track pack (55R) - $2,227
3.55 (455) - $353

can someone please tell me if the track package is actually available for the base GT, non premium and what it all includes in that package? doesn't explain on the price list

also whats is the boss 302 accessory package? (97B) is it worth the $424?

If you want 55R, you will automatically get 3.73's. Yes, 55R is available with the Base GT.

You can get 55R with a base GT. I doubt you can get the Boss 302 accessory package without getting a Boss.

55R includes the Boss 302 radiator, an engine oil cooler (same as installed on Boss 302), a Torsen T2 helical LSD w/ a 3.73 rear axle (again from the Boss 302), and Performance Friction Carbon Metallic brake pads (stock pads on Boss 302; better than stock pads, but still not a track pad). 55R also includes everything from the Brembo brake package.

I ordered this same setup last week.

What's stock rear gearing 3.31? I wanted to stick to 3.55 to get good mpg on freeway and around town when I drive normally lol

Any idea what the city/freeway mpg will be with 3.73?

I had the same concerns. To save you the search, I'll summarize what I found: It all depends on how you drive. Some people were reporting up to 26 or so on the highway with 3.73s, but as you probably know, that really depends on how fast you drive on the highway. For the city, expect high teens. If you leave every light chirping the tires, you'll get less. The worst I saw people reporting was 12 or 13. Figure low 20s on the highway if you drive fast or aggressively.

My thought was to possibly swap the 3.73 to 3.55 or 3.31, but I drive about 6,500 miles a year, and 2-3 mpg difference doesn't save me that much money. Your mileage may vary.

I run a 93 race tune with 5.0 , 3:73 and get 15 city / 25 highway.
Insert disclaimer here---> when I am driving like a normal person.

did you guys upgrade from stock gearing or ordered the 3.73 from the factory?

im wondering what the 6th gear RPM is at 80mph with the stock gearing compared to the 3.73 gearing in 6th gear going 80mph. i guess that would be my decision point, if its only 500 RPM difference then its worth it.

i might be ordering the car this week and trying to make a final decision
