I haven't been this excited for a Mustang in a long time! I actually joined up on here to talk with you guys because searching for the 2011 5.0L V8 was how I found this place!
Jeff, you're awesome for being so helpful to us fellow Mustang fanatics.

As a fellow long time member and decent "car guy" I can say that I enjoy helping fellow enthusiasts more than anyone outside of maybe close family.
Good catch, Jeff. I need to start watching FMCDealer more closely...
My account got deleted in the crash but I registered again and wanted to post in this thread(even though I'm mainly a lurker!)
I'm wanting to order my first new car ever, and I'm wanting it to be a 2011 Mustang GT if the things I've heard are true(the 5 liter mainly!!!) but here are my questions:
I'll be wanting to trade in my 03 Lightning, can I go ahead and order the car with the options I want say in December and then do the dealings on the vehicle when it comes in or will trade in value/financing be done when I order it?
How much money do I need to put down to order one?
I'm wanting to do the X-plan by buying some stock like the sticky says here, will this be an issue on a ordered car?
Thanks!!

1. You can order you car in December as you want to do. The value of your Lightning will be determined when the vehcile arrives at the dealership, as it will be several months till you see the car, if you order in December (since they don't start building 2011s till March 15th). They can give you an approximation on what it will be worth, but it will fluxuate during the winter. The value may actually come back when the car arrives as the 2011s will arrive for spring.
2. Every dealership varies when it comes to deposits for factory orders. Some of the bad ones demand thousands of dollars. I only ask for a $500 deposit that is 100% refundable if anything happens and you can't take the car. If a dealership asks for anything more than that, go to another store and see what they want to order it. You don't need to give them alot of money that they can earn the interest on.
3. X-Plan is very easy to do. But about the stock issue? I was just told this last evening from a phone call from a friend who is trying to get her father to order a 2010 F150 via X-Plan from owning stock. Ford called her father and said the stock must be owned for a minimum of 6 months!!! If your car won't come in till around April, I would suggest you get the stock ASAP, so the 6 month ownership of it can start. Once you get the stock, count down the days on a calender and then call for your X-Plan PIN number. This new stipulation is SILLY!!
4. Lastly, welcome aboard. Are you local to Pennsylvania? If so, I'll be happy to order you the 2011? Let me know if I can answer any other questions you may have. Thanks for posting and joining up. Its a wonderful site with wonderful members who are all very friendly and helpful. You'll love it here.

I'm actually in lower VA, near the KY/TN/VA border. The only thing I don't like are most car salesmen aren't "Car Guys" if you know what I mean. That's why I'd love to do dealings with someone like you who understands what's going on and all that jazz. If I didn't have the issue of a trade in I'd probably do dealings with you anyways on the car, I wouldn't care to drive up and pick it up and drive it home(break it in right, hehe) I guess with the trade in though there would be too many factors that could make it harder to do in case we couldn't come to an agreement on the price of the truck etc, don't you think?
Thanks for all the info, as soon as Ford releases the info on the 2011 I'll purchase the stock. I'm in no "rush" per say to buy the car but I'd like to have it in my possession by next april/june/july range. Thanks again!

No worries bud. Pleasure to chat with you. In regards to your trade. Have you given any thought to selling it privately? You would definitely get more for it on the private market, than what a dealership would give you for it. Just a thought. If you did wind up selling it, and don't have a trade, let me know and we can get a car ordered for you when your ready.
Hi Jeff,
First, thanks for the all the valuable information and keeping us up to date. I also plan on ordering a 2011 (mostly because I want a stripped base model, and you never find those on dealer lots), and would gladly consider ordering through you if I can't get any of the jerk dealers around here to play ball. I have a couple of questions though. First, in a previous replay to a question, you mentioned that the transaction could take place through your dealership, and the car would be drop shipped to a local dealer who would prep the car and charge a "Courtesy Delivery Fee". Any clue how much that fee might be? (I'm in NH.) Would that fee be paid through your dealership or directly to the local dealer (in which case I can see myself getting hosed)? And finally, are the receiving dealers....how can I put this politely..."hostile" to the buyer for not having bought through them? Any more light you might be able to shed on one of these "remote transactions" would be appreciated.
Thanks Jeff!
Rick

Welcome to the site. Its a great place to be. The courtesy delivery fee usually is between $250-$400, and does vary between dealers. We charge $275 I believe (though, I don't handle these and we don't do alot of them). You can call a few dealers in your area to ask them what they charge (when you call, you can ask for the title clerk, as they are the ones who handle the paperwork. No salespeople do it, as they aren't getting paid). You would pay the fee to the dealer you are picking up the car from.
Are dealers mad about doing them? Not really. To them, they are getting paid money for cleaning up a car and doing the paperwork. We did do two 2007 GT500s that were bought out of state and shipped here. Was kinda cool to see GT500s so early (we weren't getting ours for several months when these 2 arrived for prep).
Lastly, I see your from New Hampshire. Have you ever given the thought of driving down to pick the car up from me in PA? It would be a fun roadtrip back, driving your new car, getting to know how it runs on the open highway. I did this for several people in New York and they loved driving it home. To give you an idea where I'm at, I am about 25 miles north of Philadelphia, and 5 miles from the Lansdale exit of the NorthEast Extension of the PA Turnpike. Wouldn't be too much of a drive, I don't think. Just a thought
Either way, I'll be happy to help you order the car you want. Base, loaded, anyway you want it, I'll order it to your EXACT specifications!! Hey Rick,

Jeff, the more i think about it, the more i'd be willing to drive down there and pick it up from you . Our dollar is almost at par with your currency, that's tempting nevertheless. How much trouble, paperwork is involved on your side when making a sell out of the country? And is it really worth it for you going through all that PITA. I know i could save a few gran doing so. 6-7 hour drive from here ain't that bad, was up in Carlisle 2 years ago, are far are u from there ?

I am about 2 hours from Carlisle roughly. I go every year to the All-Ford Nats. I'll do some research for you in the next few days and see what is involved to sell you a car. If I didn't mention it, send a PM to CANADA GUY. He routinely bought his previous cars in Chicago, and Minnesota and had them shipped up. But he did buy them in the USA and he had the things needed to be done for Canada DOT done once he got the car. He is a nice guy and very helpful. I'll shoot you a PM in a few days once I learn what is needed. I'd love to order you a car.

Acutally, I had considered making the trip to pick the car up directly from you. I just wasn't sure how cost-effective it would be versus having it shipped. It would make for a fun road trip, though. Last couple of questions: 1. What would the sales tax (and any other PA taxes) be on a car with a transaction price around $22K or so (We don't have a sales tax here in NH...Live Free or Die baby!!), and 2. When do you think delivery would happen if I were to place the order at the earliest time possible (late Nov/early Dec?)? I understand you'd only be guessing, but I'm going to need a car by next June, the latest.
Thanks again Jeff!

As for delivery date? If you ordered one this year. I would say, delivery, on the safe side won't happen till at the earliest April. I say that, as March 15th is Job #1 for the 2011s, and barring any quality holds on the new cars due to new powertrains, they should be shipped out rather quickly. If your car was scheduled (hypothetically the 1st week of production), it would arrive in early April. Most likely, late April to be safe (and this is all speculation right now).
I really want to get a 2011 Gt but I would have to find someone to buy my 2008 GT first. My car in great shape with only 5,000 miles on it. Maybe after this winter when I get it out of storage I'll put it up for sale.
Hey Rick, sorry for the delay. You wouldn't pay sales tax as you are registering it in New Hampshire. Just because you buy a car in a different state doesn't mean you pay their sales tax. Sales tax (or any other form of tax) on an automobile, is based on where the car is registered. Since your not registering it here, you wouldn't pay it. All you would pay, would be the car, less rebates (if any at the time of delivery) and NH tag fees (we can do them for you, so you won't have to worry about doing it yourself).
