Sounds like it needs just a bit more polish. I'd run it if it sounded like the 302 TracKey idle. Definitely interested to see if more tuning companies look to do this.

Here's another variation from a tuner I've never heard of, with no cats and Corsa Extremes...

Sounds a lot like the 3v Hot Rod cams to me. Pretty impressive to be able to do that with a tune.

Here's what I still don't understand - the pulses don't keep time - whether its real cams or imitation cams from a tune.

I asked this before about the 3V's and the response had to do with 2 intake/1 exhaust valve. But the 5.0 has 2 & 2 and they still don't keep time.

Back in the day the lopers were a steady ba-dum ba-dum ba-dum ba-dum... endlessly.
And listening to NHRA all weekend it was the same - whether it was top fuel cacklin' or Pro-stock. They all kept a steady lope.
Whereas these cycle in and out of time. The pulses run together and then back in time again, then run together, then in time again.

What's up?

man I really want to get a tune like this. I have a couple files now that have decent drivability, but it would be fun to flash one of these, especially if the tuners have figured out how to make it drivable.

I like that a lot! It does need a bit more polishing and I would like to hear it rev and return to idle.

On a side note, I think I'm the one in the dark ages here. I had no idea you could do that with just a tune. I know this isn't the Boss track key but when I read about that I didn't figure it wouldn't really sound any different because it was just modifying the tune. I'm guessing that is something new only for the 5.0 right? I never saw anything like that for the 4.6.

Right. Though VCT on the SOHC helps performance, you can't separate the intake from exhaust valve timing. One affects the other due to one cam for both.

Whereas with the TiVCT DOHC you can separate the intake valve timing from the exhaust to create your overlap.

That makes a lot of sense. I never thought about the possibilities there. Thanks.

Just wait for tuners to reverse engineer the TracKey tune. I'm sure it'll get better with time. I also think that once the engine reaches 1000-1200 rpm, the "overlap" goes away.

Well, if you pull up next to a rusty ol truck that sounds like that, don't be surprised when it blows the doors off of your shiny new smooth idling Mustang.

Actually I thought of you when I made my comment. I couldn't imagine you being stuck in D.C. traffic sounding like that and likin' it. lol

Kinda reminds me of the cammed LS motors. The Corsa example above is a better representation.

Usually when a car is camming out that badly it's a beast, not a near-stock 400 HP car. :P

I have heard pleeeeeennnnnntttttttyyyy of barely 300HP pushrod 5.0s that sound just like that. I wouldn't call that car or this car in this thread a beast!

It's called technology sir embrace it! because you bet your *** that if you could have got a pushrod 5.0 to make that sound with a tune everybody would have too.
