Dont know about auto 6 speed, but pretty sure the 2011 with the 5.0 will come with a 6 spd manual. The F bodies only had a 6 spd manual, they still came with a 4 spd auto.

whether or not the GT500/Cobra style car keeps the 5.4 or moves on to a bigger engine or smaller TwinForce is not yet known. It sounds like the current engine will be kept and bumped up in HP by 2011.

I just got back from my overnight trip to Dearbon, Michigan to play with Ford’s new 2009 model lineup and technologies on their test tracks and such. It was a great trip. Although, the greatest part of the trip was being told that the 2008-2009 Bullitt Mustang is the platform for the 2010 Mustang GT.
Basically what this means is the 3.73 Limited-Slip Differential rear-end, the suspension and chassis tuning and setup is the basis, if not identical, for the 2010 Mustang GT. So the Bullitt is actually a rolling research project. But that is also the bad news. The Bullitt has no Independent Rear Suspension. I asked if the 2010 Mustang would go against the Bullitt in this respect, and I was told, no! What Ford has in the Bullitt is what we will get in 2010. The IRS is just too costly they say…

I don't know how anyone else feels, but I can't see dumping 30g's on this car. I mean, yea it's a slightly re-designed interior and exterior, and possibly a new tranny and motor, but I mean...it's still like the S197 just with some flavor to it...all over again. I will be happy with my S197 while the new years come and go. I guess I will have to wait and see when these things finally come out.
The greenhouse is staying the same, but every other panel is changing...sounds like the FordMoCo we have always known. When are we going to get the tilt/telescoping steering wheel, or the automatic headlights, or the push button start/key fob...it seems like Ford is always just a few years behind, but they do make good, quality products, and that's what I love about them. I would complain about the 6sp Auto, but I see the Mustang is getting that this time around.
Just my .02

Anyone know if Ford is planning the whole "special edition" every year thing for the 10' model?
My wish list.
2010 SVO
2011 Boss
2012 Mach1
2013 SVT Cobra

My whole point is I prefer the SVT Cobra name more than the Shelby GT500 name.
I think it's friggin' bogus that Shelby who has for sure added thousands to the GT500's MSRP just to lend his name to a car he had nothing to do with. Shelby is a dinosaur ( I can picture him in his brand new KR cruising down the highway doing 55mph in the passing lane with his left turn signal on) that came into the development of the car well after most of it's construction was complete. I feel Ford makes too many concessions to the 65-73 fans with the new Mustang. Cars like the 5.0 LX, SVT Cobra and SVO also have their fans. Lets not forget 25 years of Mustang history between 79-04'.
What I would like is for the GT500 and SVT Cobra to be different models. Have the SVT Cobra be the more balanced "sports car" of the two while the Shelby can be the 1/4 mi king.

Who said the car would have been any cheaper because of the name?
Honestly, I think it would have been the same price.
The only part that sucks is the dealers taking advantage of the markups because of the name.
Had the markups been there if it was called a Cobra? maybe... and just as long? Maybe not.

I think the Shelby name added price to the MSRP. Those in the know, know that Shelby is a businessman at heart and he was paid to use his name on the GT500. I don't know the exact numbers but I would wager that the Shelby's trademarked name meant a big payday for him. Pontiac actually paid money to the Trams Am series for every Trans Am they sold, so they same should be the case for Shelby.
I like the whole retro heritage thing Ford is doing with the Mustang, but I'd rather they kept the SVT Cobra name and ditched the whole GT500 name. Several GT500 owners act as if there car's are real Shelbys and never drive the things lol! This works for me as I'm looking to buy one and the market is flooded with low mile GT500s.

I'm not sure I understand why they WOULDN'T be a real Shelby. They are made in his shop. What would constitute a fake Shelby? It's not a clone. It's just his name is more famous now than it was in the late sixties, as if that were possible, and he's getting paid more to make these modifications to these Mustangs. Same thing as back then. I understand it's nothing like his original CSX2000 that was hand built, all of it. But from my understanding it's nothing different that what he did for Ford back then.
