I'm probably not going to go too much lower than it is now; I live in pot-hole filled Berkeley, and i don't want to bang up the underside of this car anymore than I already have lol.

Still, it'll be nice to get rid of the 4x4 gap :P

I also ordered a steeda rear shock tower brace from AM. A lot of folks say you don't need them and you don't feel it, but I don't see how bracing can hurt. Plus coilovers are supposed to exert some extra force on the shock mount points, so this might prevent any future flexing.


as a side note.. anyone know what used 53K stock bullitt suspension is worth? lol

 

My Kenny Brown shock tower brace made one of the most noticeable differences on my car. I had everything else installed before the brace went on, and I had about 80k miles under my belt. It immediately made the car more neutral in turns, and it rotated a lot easier. The setup consists of Eibach Pro-kit springs, MM C/C plates and MM Sport spec Bilstein shocks/struts, takeoff Bullitt sway bars F/R, Kenny Brown strut and shock tower braces. When I get around to rebuilding the car, I'll go with the MM coilovers, as the S/S have the threads on them already. I go to Maier Racing in Hayward for all my suspension questions and purchasing.

 

I'm struggling with what to do for the front. I really want to add some stiffness since these crapass roads make the whole car shake and jiggle. great when a woman does it, not great when its your car. But since I have the JLT CAI, word on the street is that the kenny brown strut tower brace for bullitts wont fit around it. I've debated buying a STB to mod, but I don't even know if other ones would be better to start with

Plus its kind of hard to drop cash on something I know I'll need to cut

I see em for around $100-150 usually. I also don't have a welder, so I couldn't really progress from there. Then again, there are probably a ton of shops in the east bay that would do that for me..

 

I'd like to get a STB, but I dont wanna have to go and put holes in my firewall

 

STB = PIA. I could barely get my K&N intake to fit. No way you're getting a JLT to fit.

 

The holes,, I feel, will be worth it if it helps the chassis out.

And yeah the JLT is just massive. Some of the cobra ones are more spacious there, and truth be told i havent ever seen a bullitt one up close. Maybe I'll find some people to let me try their various ones and see lol

 

Have Maier Racing build you a custom one. Wouldn't be too hard...

In other news, half of them are in. the front half. We ran into a few hiccups on the install but it eventually got done. So far I've got them set to the softest settings, and I'm getting aligned either tomorrow or tuesday, then I can start really experimenting with em

As for how they feel so far, on this soft setting its still stiffer than my stock bullitt but a lot less jolting. Even driving on berkeley roads today, despite the fact that they are a bit noisy (and we still havent tracked my rattles down) its definitely a lot more comfortable over bad roads. I could see the bumps, and hear the car dealing with them, but I didn't feel them nearly as much as with the stock stuff

ALSO in other news. I've been running the 91Race tune, and with a trunk full of tools, parts and general crap, managed to get 26mpg on my way down to Petes house!

 

Arin, you seem to do a lot on your cars, maybe time to learn how to do alignments at home. It can be done without an alignment rack.

Do I know how to do it? No. But I have seen some tutorials online for it.

Also we need pictures of the car with the new suspension. 4x4 gone?

 

I know you can but I think I need to pick up some tools to do so first. And I'd also need a level area to work, which I dont have in Berktown
edit: also forgot to add that i paid for lifetime alignment at Firestone, might as well let them do it for free :P

though it would be kinda nice to be able to know how to tune it a bit better at an event or something

When we first did the install saturday night, it was adjusted to the halfway point and man, it was tucking the top of the tire into the fender lol. That and the extreme camber from not setting it up yet made Arin's car probably the first ever "HELLAFLUSH" Bullitt for a few hours lol. far too low for berkeley roads. but i like this ride height, and I didn't seem to scrape at all yesterday other than one really steep driveway exit

as for pictures heres how the front looks now. And bear in mind that this is just a couple threads away from the highest setting.

I can't wait to drop the rear too. Actually the stiffness difference is already noticable. Even just driving normally I've accidentally kicked the rear out a few times. I guess the better front end is inspiring a level of confidence the rear can no longer match. Maybe I should take it to an Infineon drift event before I do the rear

Plus my Steeda rear shock tower brace shipped today, so I'll probably wait for that to get here and do it all at once.

I'm really excited to start playing with the suspension settings. I can finally pretend my car is in GT5

Actually I tried to detune the '00 R to be my car, but even detuned to 300hp, its still making 378lbft, so its probably a little too fast lol. also IRS. but I make sure to keep the rear alignment settings at 0 to mimic a solid axle in at least that regard. At the end of the day, its a dark green mustang that I get to drive way too fast, so I can't really complain lol

 

Lol nice. I'd love to try that some day. Do you know how to get into one of those events? I've checked out the Infineon website but I can't find any info on it. I really want to try the road course.

 

I'm pretty sure its $40 to drift or autox up there, and like $25 to drag. Road course means $$ though; I had a friend who went to trackdays there at about $300/day for 3 20 min sessions.

 

Yeah I go to the Wednesday night drags pretty often but I've been interested in the road course ever since I went to Save Mart 350. 300$ sounds a little steep for an hour of fun though lol. Maybe for my birthday next year.
