We were also seriously considering this hood but now we've decided against it because of the height of the cowl. Hope this helps...

I wonder if those "customized by owner" hoods with the concept-style scoops are functional or not? I suspect they're not.
Do you think this one is another "customized-by-owner" one-of-a-kind?

I was very close to ordering it myself. I was undecided for about 3 weeks because I didn't like the look of the high profile in a couple of the pictures. I called Mo at RKSport and he said their hood is 3" higher than a stock hood at the cowl. I carried all 7 pictures in my briefcase for about 2 weeks!

some of you may or may not be upset -- but it doesn't appear that the cowl on the RKSPort hood is as high as assumed -- @ least it doesn't appear as high as the pics ontheir website.
I love the look - mine arrived today -- I will upload pics as soon as I find the cable for my camera -- quality is excellent -- I am very impressed & relieved after hearin all of the horror stories.
What about the underside? Is it ducted, or does the air just fill the engine compartment? Also, is it vented in the higher cowl to reduce air pressure under the hood? Looks better every time I see it!

it's ducted -- looks like the duct runs from left vent to right & the output is right over the air filter. doesn't fill the higher section of the cowl though. here's a couple pics of the underside...

Did the hood come painted? If so, is that included in the price?

no - it looks like it's painted though - quality is awesome!!! my car is black -- i'll be having the hood painted next week -- I got a quote for $250 depending on quality from paint from a shop that I'm familiar with. I don't think they will have to do much work besides sanding a little since the surface is so smooth.
O.K we test fit the hood today. It went well, the fit is quite good. There are some problem's however. The nut's that the bolt's screw into the hood hinge (near the windshield) came loose on the driver's side. The hood is two pieces that are epoxied together (the top and bottom halves). The nuts are epoxied on the bottom side then the top is epoxied on, to make it one piece. The bodyshop had to cut this piece out and re-epoxy those nut's in then re-glass it. They have to shave the outside edge on the passenger side about a 1/16th of an inch to make the gap's even. There are some minor high and low spot's on the top surface of the hood that they are going to work out. All in all it's not bad at all. The shop said they have seen far worse. So the bottom line is it's going to cost around $650 to prep, paint, and clear...
BTW: It look's to me that the cowl in the middle is about 1 1/2"- 2" higher than the stock hood... I'll measure it the next time I go to the bodyshop.
Here's some pic's, please excuse the camera phone.... :bang:
P.S. Thank's for the help Brandon.

I got it on the pre-order for $450 and $120 for shipping, then yes it's going to be around $650 for prep and paint.

Vegasjay -- sorry about the problems you ran into w/ yours.
I'm going to take mine to get pre-fitted tommorrow -- wish me luck
Wow... WOW guys!!!
These pics have me so stoked!
I am so glad I put in my preorder for this hood. I actually like that it does have a cowl hood effect but not as high as originally thought. And the air DOES vent riight over the air filter - awesome!
Can't wait to see your mounted after painting!

Great looking hood guys. I hope mine gets here soon.
Thanks for the Pics, can't wait to see it after it's painted.
Vegasjay are you going back with the same stripes?
I still think I will just get the body color for now on mine. I do like the lines of this hood, so I think that you will see them better on my car if I just keep it all the same color.

Good luck on your test fit!
I think the quality of these hood's is very good, you should be in good shape. I consider the very few problem's I had to be minor and the important stuff to be right on... Some of the old timer's in the shop couldn't stop saying "That is one b!tch'n look'n 68 Shelby". They told me stories of drooling over them when they first came out and racing them and such (back in the 60's). It was a good time fitting the hood and I'm glad I bought it. The hood is going to make the car.
Good luck on your test fit!
Justin. Does your air vent under the hood, hit (dent) your open air filter when closed? My first RK hood did. Please explain more about the problem you are having. I just had a NEW BORN little girl so, I have been running!
