New RKsport Hood

O.K we test fit the hood today. It went well, the fit is quite good. There are some problem's however. The nut's that the bolt's screw into the hood hinge (near the windshield) came loose on the driver's side. The hood is two pieces that are epoxied together (the top and bottom halves). The nuts are epoxied on the bottom side then the top is epoxied on, to make it one piece. The bodyshop had to cut this piece out and re-epoxy those nut's in then re-glass it. They have to shave the outside edge on the passenger side about a 1/16th of an inch to make the gap's even. There are some minor high and low spot's on the top surface of the hood that they are going to work out. All in all it's not bad at all. The shop said they have seen far worse. So the bottom line is it's going to cost around $650 to prep, paint, and clear...
BTW: It look's to me that the cowl in the middle is about 1 1/2"- 2" higher than the stock hood... I'll measure it the next time I go to the bodyshop.
Here's some pic's, please excuse the camera phone.... :bang:
P.S. Thank's for the help Brandon.

I should have pre-ordered and likely could have sold it if I didn't like it...
Even though we missed the pre-order, I was more concerned regarding the QC of this new hood considering the 1st hood RKSport released wasn't that good. Glad to hear that the initial reports have been good so far. We'll wait and see how the finished product turns out and the overall height of the cowl before we decide to order or not. We still love the hood as it's exactly what we were looking for. Thanks everyone for posting photos and the progress reports...

well I completed my pre-fit today -- took about 15 min -- everything went perfect
-- drve it by the paint shop so they could look @ it. with the exception of trimming the driver side by a mm or so - so it doesn't touch the fender they say the hood is flawless --
I intend to get it painted next week - but for the time being here's a couple pics

Is there any venting at the cowl or is it all closed off?
How about a pic of how it looks from the driver's seat??

for the most part most of the cowl is closed off // I posted som pics midway thru pg. 5 that shows the underside & how the flow works. looks like the venting will supply a substantial amount of air flow. i'm recharging the battery in my digi-cam. I'll take pics from the driver seat when it's done. your view really isn't obstructed. the height increase doesn't seem to bother me at all.
for those of you who are worried about it ... don't. then again you can always raise the driver seat about an inch or so to compensate.

Yo Justin! Where are you man! I need to know how your C&L CAI fits with are new hood? No rubbing or smashing I hope. If not I'm going to make the change from MMR to C&L.

The air inlet on the hood fit's very well over the open filter, it doesn't touch it at all. It does look like the scoops will force a good bit of air into the filter. Many of you will be glad to know the windshield squirter's are already located and the holes drilled. I talked to the bodyshop today and all is going well. They did however find two extra nut's floating around in the hood...
When they were making the hood they epoxied 4 nut's on the bottom side to bolt into the hood hinges (2 on each side). If you look there is a small hole that has been fiberglassed in, between the two bolt hole's. That must have been the acsess hole to epoxy the nut's in place. When they did mine the guy must have droped a couple and instead of getting them out he just left them in there. :bang: When we went to test fit the driver side nut's must not have been in there very well and they came off when we went to remove the hood. The bodyshop cut a hole on the inside and removed all the extra nut's and they are going to fab a metal bar to weld the nuts to and re-glass it together, making it stronger than it was. Just be careful with those nut's as they are not in there very well....
As for the venting in the rear of the hood it will depend on if you re-install the rubber seal at the back of the hood. I am going to leave mine off as it will allow 3 good spot's for the air to vent from under the hood. I'm not re-installing my hood pin's because the new hood makes that a difficult task. The pin's would have to go to the far outside front corner's of the hood and I don't want to put them there. :bang: I'll just have to see how this hood does at high speeds and go from there...
BTW: The cowl is aprx. 3 inches overal in hieght.

Thanks! Would also like to see a full side-on pic of it looking level across the hood if possible to get an idea of the slope of the cowl, if any, as compared to the windshield.
